How much to store a hatching turkey egg

A hatching turkey egg has one peculiarity: it ages quickly and loses its quality. The percentage of hatching of young animals and their viability depend on the conditions under which the eggs were stored.

Conditions for storing a hatching turkey egg

Eggs for incubation are collected every 2-3 hours, otherwise they will freeze in winter and deteriorate from the heat in summer.

The incubation turkey egg is stored for no more than 6 days.

For storing eggs, choose a cold room where the temperature is maintained at + 5 … + 10 degrees, while the air humidity should be at the level of 75-80%.

The eggs are collected in a clean tray. Dirty eggs are poorly stored, the output from them is much worse, however, it is impossible to wash and wipe them before incubation, it is better not to use them at all.

How long a turkey hatching egg is stored is difficult to answer. As a rule, eggs are stored for 5-6 days. If longer storage is expected, over 8-10 days, then the percentage of withdrawal decreases every day.

So that the eggs do not lose their qualities, during the storage period they are heated for 2 hours in an incubator at a temperature of + 37,5 … + 38 degrees every day.

The hatching egg must be transported very carefully so as not to damage the shell or break off the hail. Cover them with rags or newspapers. Store eggs upright.

How to select a hatching turkey egg

Eggs are selected for laying in an incubator based on external signs.

  • The mass should be at least 75-100 g. The products of approximately the same mass are placed in the incubator in order to get full-fledged chicks. A brood is best obtained from medium-sized eggs;
  • The shape of the eggs is elliptical, the air chamber is at the blunt end;
  • The shell is smooth, without cracks, spots or build-ups. Marble-shelled eggs are not used for incubation;
  • The contents of the egg in the lumen with an ovoscope are homogeneous, the yolk is central, and is inactive.

Eggs that do not meet these criteria are not used for incubation. In addition, eggs with a mobile yolk, a large air chamber, thin shells and signs of mold are not incubated.

Incubating turkey eggs is similar to incubating chickens. It is carried out at the same temperature and humidity. In the first period, from the first to the eighth day, the temperature in the incubator is maintained at 37,5-38 degrees, the temperature is gradually reduced to 37 degrees, and the humidity is increased from 65 to 85%. Hatching begins on the 26th day, by the 28th day, all turkeys should hatch.

It is not difficult to incubate turkey eggs on your own, the main thing is to collect them on time and store them correctly, observing all the requirements.
