How long can open wine be kept

Each type of wine has its own lifespan, after which it becomes unusable. Indeed, as soon as oxygen enters the drink, it begins to oxidize and loses its original taste and aroma.

How long is it measured for which guilt to stand open?

  • Sparkling wine – day

Due to the gas content in it, the shelf life is no more than one day. If the bottle is not closed with a cork, then the contents will completely fizzle out after 4 hours.

  • Rosé wine – up to 3 days

Light rosé wine begins to lose its flavor characteristics almost immediately. The maximum lifespan of an uncorked rose wine is no more than 3 days.

  • Red wine – up to 5 days

Everything is not easy with red wine. If red wine has a light texture, then it can be stored in the refrigerator for 1-3 days. If you purchased a full-bodied wine (rich, dense), its shelf life is increased to 5 days. Interestingly, there are red wine varieties that reveal the full spectrum of their taste only after one or two days. This is especially true for young wines.

  • White wine – up to 3 days

Experts advise keeping white wine no longer than 3 days. Due to its light texture and low alcohol content, subtle fruity notes begin to evaporate within an hour after opening.

  • Fortified dessert wine – up to 7 days

Due to its high alcohol and sugar content, fortified dessert wine can retain its qualities for a whole week. The same term is recommended for such derivatives of wine as port, Madeira and sherry.

How to Extend the Life of Guilt

  • An open bottle is best kept in the refrigerator or other cool, dark place.
  • Specialty wine shops sell an excellent device that will allow you to pump out excess oxygen from a wine bottle and close it tightly with a cork. This is a vacuum plug. Using it, you get a practically new bottle of wine and can keep it as long as you want.
  • The remaining wine (except sparkling wine) can be poured into a smaller glass vessel. It is important that the new bottle has a screw cap and is almost filled to the top with liquid.
  • If you are not going to finish off the leftover wine, you can freeze it in ice cube trays and then use it to make sauces, desserts, marinades and meat dishes.

Let’s remind, earlier we told how to combine wine and food correctly, and also found out from what – beer or wine – they get drunk faster.
