Home birth: he photographs his partner at work

Childbirth photos: he immortalizes his wife’s 20 hours of labor

Originally from Brazil, Priscila Boch and Gustavo Gomes have been parents since this summer. For them, it was important that their daughter was born at home, in their family cocoon. As Gustavo is a photographer, he took the opportunity to capture, without artifice, the moments preceding the birth. In total, 20 hours of work for Priscila, during which the young mother endured the contractions. After a day of shooting and supporting his wife, Gustavo was finally able to hold his daughter Violeta in his arms. For the dad, the birth was “intense, tense, unique and exciting”. Moreover, too moved, he could not photograph the expulsion of the baby.

By taking these magnificent pictures, Gustavo Gomes wishes to educate young parents about home childbirth. For him, this practice is absolutely not dangerous if the pregnancy goes well for the baby and the mother. You should know that in Brazil, the cesarean rate is particularly high. Almost 50% of deliveries in public hospitals end in the operating room. In the private sector, this figure would be around 90%! Wanting to avoid this situation, Priscila, from the start of her pregnancy, called on the services of a Doula.

The young dad, who did not hesitate to publish these magnificent photos on social networks, is however worried about the look that his daughter will later carry on these pictures. But, for him, it was obvious to display his happiness and the immense gift of fatherhood.
