Trip cancellation
Travel insurance is often sold with the trip. It reimburses the costs incurred with the agency organizing the trip, the airline or the rental agency.
The reasons for the cancellation must fall within the conditions provided for in the contract and which vary from one insurer to another.
Namely : a good insurance contract covers chronic illnesses, accidents, the death or hospitalization of a loved one, the invitation to a remedial examination, obtaining a job provided by Pôle Emploi, transfer.
In the event of illness or accident
In Europe: bring the E 111 form that you will get from Social Security. All your costs will be reimbursed.
Elsewhere: check for which countries the healthcare and hospitalization costs cover for your “individual accident” and “additional health” insurance contracts are acquired. In the event of a territorial limit, take out a specific contract.
If your injuries are caused by a third party: the latter owes you compensation in addition to that which you will receive as your insurance.
Theft of your luggage
Check if you have personal guarantees:
– a “resort” extension in your multi-risk housing contract.
– with “baggage” insurance.
In case of damage to others
Normally, the civil liability insurance included in your multi-risk home contract applies.
At the wheel of your car: the auto civil liability insurance that you have taken out will compensate the victims.
At the wheel of a rented car: the insurer of the rented car covers the costs.
Please note: in some countries, insurance is not compulsory. In this case, it is better to take out a contract yourself.
A credit card, guarantees
High-end cards (Visa Premier, Gold Euro Card, Gold master card, Platinium, American Express, etc.) include cancellation insurance guarantees. To benefit from it, you must pay for the trip with the card.
