Help her accept her glasses

Choosing glasses for your child

All tastes are in nature. Firecracker blue or canary yellow, it may be a choice you would not have made! The important thing is that he likes his glasses and wants to wear them. Moreover, eyewear manufacturers do not help you much in sobriety since the frames offered for children are often very colorful and rather very showy. Plastic or metal, they must first of all be adapted to the morphology of the child and designed not to injure him in the event of an impact. Let your optician guide you, who will advise you on the most suitable frames. In terms of glasses, minerals are much too fragile for children and we generally have the choice between two types of unbreakable glass: hardened organic glass and polycarbonate. The latter is almost unbreakable but is easily scratched and is more expensive. Finally, there are anti-reflection or anti-scratch treatments that your optician will explain to you.

Make your child accept glasses

Wearing glasses is sometimes a difficult step for children. While some are delighted to “behave like the grown-ups”, others feel embarrassed or even ashamed. To help him, you must value the glasses wearers you know: granny, you, his little friend … Also put pictures of him with his glasses in the living room and above all do not tell him to take off his glasses as soon as you take a picture, he would quickly understand that you don’t find it aesthetic. Finally, associate the glasses with the values of seriousness, intelligence, cunning of the super heroes: Vera from Scoody-doo is the smartest, Harry Potter, the bravest, Superman takes off his glasses before transforming, Barbotine of the Barbapapas is the one who knows the most things.

Show your child how to take care of their glasses

The glasses twist, scratch themselves, fall to the ground. Children who wear them must learn to pay attention to them, not to sit on them, not to put them down just any way and anywhere. You can teach him very quickly never to put them on the glasses, but on the contrary on the bent branches, the ideal is to put them back in their case. You also need to know how to clean them properly without scratching them. The best method is to run them under water with a little soap and then wipe them with a paper tissue or the chamois cloth which is surely in the case. Forget all the other fabrics, even the T-shirt, which can scratch the glasses. Finally for school, it is preferable when possible not to wear them in class and in sport. The mistresses are well acquainted with the ritual of glasses. They ask for a box to put them away before going out for recess or going to a nap, if possible to leave a pair at school. Children very quickly take the fold of storing their glasses themselves and picking them up when work resumes.

What if my child has broken or lost their glasses?

Lost glasses, scratched glasses, bent or even broken branches, inconveniences that you will certainly experience at least once. Do not allow your child to wear glasses in poor condition: they may injure them or be bad for their eyesight if they are scratched. Opticians often offer one-year warranties on frames and / or lenses, which will then be automatically refunded to you in the event of breakage. If it is an accident, you will be able to obtain reimbursement by invoking the civil liability guarantee of the person in question. Finally, most opticians offer a second pair for 1 euro. Less aesthetic most of the time, it is still very useful to last the year or to put on the more “dangerous” days: sport, class outing.
