Growing strawberries in a greenhouse all year round
Growing strawberries in a greenhouse is a good business option. This berry is in demand in winter and summer. Even if you do not want to grow greenhouse strawberries on an industrial scale, you can organize a small greenhouse to delight your family.
Planting strawberries for greenhouse cultivation
Choose the right variety before planting. The following are considered good varieties for greenhouse conditions: “Elsanta”, “Zenga Zengana”, “Marmolada”, “Honia”, “Sonata”, “Crown”.
Some time before planting, feed the soil with peat and humus, and immediately before this procedure, apply a complex mineral fertilizer. Choose a good mustache with healthy roots for planting.
You can grow strawberries outdoors until August, and then simply transfer them to the greenhouse. When digging up a seedling, remove all leaves from it and store it in the refrigerator until planting in the greenhouse. Plant the shoots in the greenhouse at least 25 cm apart.
Growing strawberries in a greenhouse all year round
One of the main growing conditions is proper lighting. Strawberries should receive at least 16 hours of light per day. Here are the rest of the growing guidelines:
- As the strawberries grow, gradually increase the temperature in the greenhouse until they reach 20-25 ° C. Best of all, an automated heating system will cope with the task of heating.
- Monitor the humidity level. During planting, it should be in the range of 80-85%, during the period of active growth, reduce the humidity to 75%, and during the flowering period – to 70%.
- Organize drip irrigation. It should be directed to the root zone of the plants.
- Feed the bushes twice a month. To do this, water them with the following fertilizer: dilute 10 g of potassium salt and 10 g of ammonium nitrate in 80 liters of water.
- Without pollination, strawberries in a greenhouse will not bloom or bear fruit. You can place a bumblebee hive in it, but it needs a lot of maintenance. It is easier to pass through the flowers with a soft brush 2-3 times a day. You can also install room fans in the greenhouse and direct air currents to flowering plants.
It is important to prevent disease as it spreads from bush to bush very quickly in the greenhouse. To do this, periodically spray the strawberries with fungicide and monitor the moisture level.
To grow strawberries all year round, you need to choose the right variety, correctly organize the conditions in the greenhouse, and carefully care for the berries. A bountiful harvest of sweet berries during the cold season will reward you for your hard work.
