The valuable properties of goji berries have been known in Asian countries for over 2500 years and are called “red diamonds of the East”. These fruits have a strong healing effect, especially in the case of rheumatism and a decrease in immunity. However, goji berries have a much broader spectrum of activity. They help regulate the work of the heart, keep blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol at the right level.

History

Goji berries are the fruits of the Chinese wolfberry plant and are related to the Chinese wolfberry. However, they have nothing to do with our Polish wolfberries, which are poisonous.

Properties and operation

Asian medicine successfully uses goji berries in diseases of the lungs, liver and heart. The Chinese strongly believe that long-term use of berries significantly strengthens the immune system, and at the same time has a positive effect on the condition of bones and joints. Berries also support eyesight and relieve menstrual ailments.

They inhibit the growth of cancer

Goji berries are a rich source of protein, which includes as many as 18 amino acids. In addition, blueberries contain fats and carbohydrates as well as 5 unsaturated fatty acids from the omega-6 group. These ingredients are responsible for the proper functioning of the brain and nervous system. They also have many vitamins – C, B1, B2, B6 and E and minerals – phosphorus, calcium, selenium, iron, copper, zinc. However, the most valuable ingredient, according to Chinese specialists, is the bioactive polysaccharide complex (LBP), which has a stimulating effect on the immune system, antioxidant properties, and most importantly, anti-cancer properties.

They lower the sugar level

Goji berries, due to their polysaccharide compounds, stimulate the work of the pancreas and easily capture glucose in the tissues, thereby controlling blood sugar levels. They regulate hypertension and cholesterol. Cyperone, which is a component of goji berries, has an extremely beneficial effect on the work of the heart and circulatory system. Berries have a rich composition of betaine – a valuable substance that prevents heart disease and venous and circulatory diseases. What’s more, blueberries effectively lower cholesterol, and their health-promoting properties contribute to the increase of this “good” cholesterol for the body.

The presence of vitamin C in the berries is very important, which also has a positive effect on the entire circulatory system. According to experts, goji berries have as much as 2500 mg of vitamin C in their composition.

They support the eyesight

Goji berries are red-orange in color. It is the result of the high content of carotenoids and lutein. These ingredients have antioxidant properties and protect the retina from the harmful effects of free radicals. A deficiency in lutein and carotenoids in the diet can lead to macular degeneration. In addition, lutein supports vision and protects the eye structures from UV rays.

They support the liver

The Chinese reach for goji berries in therapies that cleanse the digestive system of toxins, including the liver. Scientists claim that the polysaccharide complex contained in blueberries effectively inhibits liver damage caused by a high-fat diet.
