A food moth can start even in the cleanest kitchen: this little butterfly settles in dry cereals, nuts and other products, multiplies quickly there and causes a lot of problems. Fortunately, food moths can be disposed of.

Food moth: how to get rid of?

How to get rid of food moths with anti-malaria drugs

If this harmful butterfly has settled in the kitchen, one of these means can be used in the fight against it: – repellents, – insecticides, – anti-moth sections, – moth plates.

Repellents are moth-repellent drugs. They can be placed in a kitchen cabinet or in open areas. Such drugs do not kill pest butterflies, but simply scare them away, preventing them from approaching the cherished cereal and laying eggs in it. But the effect of these funds is short-lived: after 2-3 months, the old drugs need to be changed to new ones.

Insecticides are harsh chemicals used to kill eggs and larvae that have emerged. Such products are available in the form of solutions and aerosols.

A food moth that survived after using an insecticide has immunity to it, so this drug is already useless in the fight against it.

Antimole sections have a combined effect. But before using them, you need to carefully study the instructions: for example, for an area less than 15 square meters, you cannot use more than two antimole sections. However, not all of these drugs can be used in the kitchen (they are too toxic). Antimol plates have a similar effect, but, unlike sections, they do not have a pungent odor.

Folk remedies for food moths

Garlic is an excellent remedy for pest moths. It is recommended to slightly open a few cloves of garlic and spread them on the shelves of the kitchen cabinet: the aroma emitted by the garlic has a detrimental effect on the butterflies (they will eventually disappear completely).

To prevent moths from starting up in the kitchen, stocks of cereals and other of her favorite products should be stored in tightly closed glass containers.

To shorten the lifespan of food moths, it is recommended to use table vinegar. First, you need to treat the cabinets where the food moth appeared with warm soapy water, after which they should be ventilated for 30–35 minutes. Then it is necessary to generously grease with vinegar all the cracks in which the food moth lives, and leave for 1-1,5 hours. Then the lockers need to be ventilated again.

And the moth cannot stand the smell of mint, wormwood and lavender. If you lay out bundles of these dried plants in cupboards, very soon the pest butterfly will die. And besides, this persistent aroma will protect the kitchen from a new invasion of moths. Bay leaves, carnations and geranium flowers have a similar effect (if you put them in the kitchen cabinets where the moth settled, the moths will die).
