The problem of prostate enlargement is more and more often diagnosed among men, because prostate problems may appear in the age range of 35 – 40 years. There is a long list of drugs on the pharmaceutical market whose main task is to control the reduction of the size of the prostate gland. There is an opinion among urologists that Finaster is one of the better drugs in this field.
Finaster is a drug in the form of coated tablets, the main ingredient of which is finasteride. The drug is available in packages of 30 pieces, 90 pieces, 120 pieces. It is a reimbursed drug. The drug should be washed down with more water.
Finaster – indications
Finaster is prescribed when there is a need to shrink the prostate gland. It is also used by patients who have problems with proper urine flow. Finaster is introduced into the treatment plan at the risk of acute urinary retention, often surgery is the only solution in this case.
The drug must not be administered in the case of allergy to the drug component. It is not recommended for pregnant women and breastfeeding women. Finaster must also not be given to children.
Finaster – dose
The dose and frequency of administration of the drug is determined by the attending physician. Finaster is a drug that does not need to be taken at any particular time of the day, and it does not matter whether you take it before or after a meal. It is very important that the urologist orders tests to rule out prostate cancer before starting treatment. The main component of the drug may mask the concentration of PSA, i.e. the prostate antigen, and thus prevent the detection of prostate cancer. The treatment usually lasts at least six months. Your doctor may change the dosage during therapy. It should be remembered that the first positive effects of the drug may be visible in the first months of treatment, but the drug must not be discontinued too early.
In patients who have been diagnosed with renal failure, as well as in the elderly, the doctor should not change the dosage. There are no studies that show the need to change the amount and size of doses in people with liver problems.
Finaster – side effects
Finaster, like other drugs, can cause side effects. Side effects that occur frequently include:
- decreased libido
- impotence
The side effects that Finaster causes less often include:
- ejaculation disorders
- rash
- breast enlargement and tenderness
Finaster also causes side effects, the frequency of which has not yet been determined. These types of side effects include:
- depression
- palpitations
- testicular pain
- hives with itching
- lowering the quality of sperm
- male infertility
Clinical trials have also shown that when Finaster was introduced to the pharmaceutical market, patients using it for long periods of time were more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the case of long-term therapy, PSA in men will be significantly reduced. There were no abnormal interactions that Finaster could enter with other medications. Patients taking the drug for a long time, and especially in the case when the patient suffers from constant urine retention, should be constantly monitored. The idea is to avoid complications associated with obstruction of the urinary tract. Of course, any worrying symptoms should prompt the patient taking the drug to report to a check-up at the attending physician.
Before use, read the leaflet, which contains indications, contraindications, data on side effects and dosage as well as information on the use of the medicinal product, or consult your doctor or pharmacist, as each drug used improperly is a threat to your life or health.
