Far Eastern obabok (Rugiboletus extremiorientalis) photo and description

Hat: far eastern obabok (Far eastern rust) has an ocher-yellow color. Young mushrooms have a ball-shaped hat, while mature mushrooms have a pillow-shaped, convex hat. The surface of the cap is covered with radial wrinkles. On the edges of the cap there are remnants of a bedspread. In the lower part the cap is tubular, at the base of the legs the tubules are indented. Young mushrooms have a yellow tubular layer, mature olive-yellow. The cap diameter is up to 25 cm. The skin is slightly wrinkled, tuberculate, brownish in color. In dry weather, the skin cracks. Hyphae of the skin of the cap are standing, obtuse, yellow in color.

Spore Powder: yellowish ocher.

Leg: The stem of the mushroom has a cylindrical shape, ocher color, the surface of the stem is covered with small brown scales. The leg scales consist of hyphal bundles, resembling vultures on the skin of the cap.

Leg length 12-13 cm. Thickness 2-3,5 cm. Solid, strong leg.

Pulp: At first, the pulp of young mushrooms is dense; in ripe mushrooms, the pulp becomes loose. On the cut, the flesh acquires a pinkish color. The color of the pulp is off-white.

Disputes: fusiform pale brown.

Spread: found in the southern part of Primorsky Krai, grows in oak forests. Grows profusely in places. Fruiting time August – September.

Edibility: Obabok Far East is suitable for human consumption.
