EXPERT OPINION. Frost and skin

How winter affects the condition of the skin and how to properly care for it in cold weather, says expert, dermatologist, cosmetologist Maya Goldobina.

How winter affects the skin

The cold season is a test for our skin. Low temperatures, wind, humidity, the need to wear warm clothes – all these factors force her to work in a stressful mode. Do not ignore the difference between the atmospheric conditions outside and inside the premises, the use of heating devices and low air humidity at home and in the office.

A rapid change in temperature, when we get from frost to a warm room, is stressful for the skin.

Such a load activates the mechanisms of adaptation. Some of them are connected with the whole body: it is necessary to keep warm and avoid hypothermia. This important role is played by the subcutaneous adipose tissue and the dermis. Under the influence of cold, blood vessels constrict to keep warm. With continued contact with low temperatures, the superficial vessels of the skin dilate to prevent frostbite of the upper layers of the skin (and at this moment you get a blush on your cheeks).

Blush is a natural reaction of blood vessels to frost.

A separate task is to maintain the health of the horny (topmost) layer of the skin and preserve the hydrolipid mantle. Therefore, in winter, sebum production tends to increase. At the same time, the moisture level of the epidermis decreases. There is also some evidence that the diversity of microorganisms on the surface of the skin increases in winter. In a sense, we can also talk about some change in the skin microbiome associated with the season.

All these factors lead to uncomfortable sensations on the skin (dryness, peeling, tightness, increased sensitivity) and redness. In owners of sensitive skin, these manifestations can be very pronounced, which negatively affects the quality of life.

Vulnerable lip skin requires additional attention in winter.

How to take care of your skin in winter

High-quality and reasonable care during this period of time is especially necessary. Let’s look at its options for each zone.

Face

Care begins with a mild cleanser. One suitable option would be Lipikar Syndet. Its formula contains a balanced set of cleansing and caring ingredients. The product can be used for both face and body. Recall that cleansing with a special tool should be carried out in the morning and in the evening.

To continue care in the morning, a cream with a rich texture will help. For high-quality nutrition and hydration, it is important that it contains both lipids and moisturizing components. For example, Cicaplast B5+ balm includes both caring and soothing ingredients. As well as a prebiotic complex of three components – the tribiome maintains a favorable environment for the life of microorganisms.

In the evening care after cleansing, it is desirable to strengthen the moisturizing component. Use Hyalu B5 Hydrating Serum. It contains two types of hyaluronic acid to effectively moisturize the epidermis and vitamin B5, which reduces skin reactivity and prevents irritation. After a long and cold day, the use of such a serum is a separate tactile pleasure. You can use it on its own or apply a cream after it.

The lips are an anatomical region where two structurally distinct living tissues meet, the skin and mucous membranes. Plus, this zone experiences additional mechanical stress: speech, food, kisses. She needs separate and frequent care. We recommend using Cicaplast for lips. It moisturizes, restores, and protects delicate skin from the cold. Apply the product several times a day and at night.

Arms

Brushes not only experience all the factors that we talked about at the beginning of the article. Additional damage is caused by frequent washing, the use of antiseptics and doing housework without gloves. The hand cream in this case takes on the functions of another protective layer, maintains the skin barrier and prevents the formation of cracks and damage. For daily use, Cicaplast Mains is suitable. Despite the rich texture, it is easily absorbed. The skin remains soft and well-groomed for several hours. Hand cream should be renewed as needed and be sure to apply at night.

Body

Complaints about dryness and discomfort of the skin of the body often occur in winter. Certain areas may suffer more than others. So, the area of the legs is a frequent localization of cold dermatitis. Regular application of care (morning and / or evening) significantly reduces the risk of developing this condition and helps to reduce its negative manifestations on the skin. Your personal skin history should also be considered when choosing a product. So, if there are signs of atopy, it is advisable to use a special remedy. For example, Lipikar AP+M balm. It contains 20% Shea Butter, rich in unsaturated fatty acids that help maintain the skin barrier and have anti-inflammatory properties. Also in its formula you will find prebiotic components: Aqua posae filiformis and mannose. These ingredients create a favorable environment for the normal functioning of their own microflora.

Winter is a time of comfort and especially gentle skin care. Let these daily rituals give you pleasant moments of calmness, and let quality care products help you with this.
