Exercise Reduces Stroke Risk By Almost 40%

Sports activities between the ages of 45 and 50 reduce the risk of stroke in old age by more than a third. This conclusion was reached by scientists at the University of Texas, who published the results of their research in the journal Stroke, briefly writes about him “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.

The study involved nearly 20 men and women between the ages of 45 and 50 who underwent special fitness tests on a treadmill. Scientists tracked their health until at least 65 years of age. It turned out that those whose physical shape was better in this age range was 37% less likely to experience stroke in old age. Moreover, this result did not even depend on factors such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

The fact is that exercise stimulates blood flow to the brain, thereby preventing the natural breakdown of its tissues.

“We all constantly hear that sport is good, but many people still don’t do it. We hope that this objective data on stroke prevention will help motivate people to move and be in good physical shape, ”says study author Dr. Ambarish Pandey.

Doctors recommend that adults do moderate exercise that raises their heart rate slightly, such as cycling or brisk walking, at least five times a week.
