E905b Vaseline

Vaseline (Petrolatum, Petroleum Jelly, Vaselinum, E905b) – glazier, separator, sealant. The ointment-like liquid is odorless and tasteless, consisting of a mixture of mineral oil and solid paraffinic hydrocarbons. It is soluble in ether and chloroform, it is not soluble in water and alcohol, it is mixed with any oils, except castor oil.

Vaseline is used for the impregnation of paper and fabrics in the electrical industry, for the production of greases resistant to strong oxidants, for the protection of metals from corrosion, in medicine as a laxative, cosmetics as a component of cosmetic creams, as a lubricant (lubricant) in the sex industry.

The additive was excluded from the list of “Food additives for food production” to the Sanitary and Epidemiological Rules and Regulations (SanPiN 2.3.2.2364-08) in 2008.
