Culinary myths not to be believed

There are always a lot of myths around food. Scientists are constantly trying to figure out the benefits of ingredients, cooking techniques, or the miles of harm associated with cooking accessories. What is the time to stop believing once and for all?

Harm of wood cutting boards

Despite the environmental friendliness of the material, opponents of wooden cutting boards claim that after cutting a poultry or fish, microscopic pieces of carcass remain in the recesses after the knife, and then bacteria begin to multiply. Therefore, supposedly using such boards is a crime against your own health.

Research by scientists from the University of California has proven that there is no risk of food being left on board with routine maintenance.

Rapidly boiling salt water

It is believed that if you add salt to the water, it will boil faster. This means that the cooking time will be sharply reduced. From the point of view of chemistry, despite the large amount of salt in water, its boiling point does not change.

Harmful aluminum

In America, a study was carried out, as a result of which a lot of aluminum was found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. From which it was concluded that foil and aluminum dishes contribute to this in every possible way. However, after a few years, a lot of studies have been carried out to prove that all aluminum is processed by the kidneys and excreted in the urine. And no link to Alzheimer’s has been established.

The meat in the crust is juicier

In the 19th century, the German chemist Justus von Liebig conducted an experiment with cooking meat. He boiled one piece and cooked the other on a hot surface. The fried meat turned out to be more juicy, and it was concluded that the crust, as it were, seals all the juices inside.

In fact, when cooking, all juices go into water, which was confirmed in the 21st century by Harold McGee, author of the book “On Food and Cooking”. He baked two pieces of meat, with and without a crust, and the meat without the crust turned out to be juicier.

Sodium foods are too salty

In fact, the presence of sodium in food does not necessarily indicate its taste in advance. Not all sodium foods are as high in salt. Salt and sodium are equally abundant in baked goods, convenience foods, fast food and sauces. In other products, everything will depend on the composition.

You need to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

This opinion of nutritionists is very general. For a weight of 100 kilograms and 50, this will be a completely different dose, sometimes not everyone can do it. I drive should be based on my own feelings and needs for moisture. It is useful to drink half an hour before meals, during workouts. The rest is up to personal preference.
