Chickenpox – Our doctor’s opinion

Chickenpox – Our doctor’s opinion

As part of its quality approach, Passeportsanté.net invites you to discover the opinion of a health professional. Dr Dominic Larose, emergency physician, gives you his opinion on the varicella :

Chickenpox has long been viewed as a compulsory passage of childhood. With the arrival of an effective vaccine, as well as antivirals for adolescents and adults, this is no longer the case.

If a child gets chickenpox despite vaccination, it will usually be greatly reduced. Nevertheless, it is absolutely necessary see a doctor if the fever persists for more than 4 daysbecause the child could have a secondary bacterial infection.

Also, contrary to popular belief until recently, some children may have chickenpox more than once. The phenomenon is less rare than we thought. And, oddly enough, the parents of these children have also had chickenpox more than once.
