Chicken legs in foil: how to bake? Video

Oven baked chicken legs are a great option for a family dinner. Cooking them is quick and easy, and the result is simply amazing. To make it more satisfying, they can be cooked with potatoes by wrapping each leg in a foil envelope.

What products do you need

To prepare a delicious dinner, you will need several chicken legs – for the number of family members or guests you have invited. For each portion of the leg, you need:

  • potatoes – 1-2 pieces
  • onions – ½ pc.
  • Butter – 10 g
  • ground nutmeg – on the tip of a knife
  • ground black pepper
  • ground hot red pepper
  • Bay leaf
  • salt

How to cook foil baked chicken legs

If you know in advance that you will bake the legs in the oven, you should first marinate them. To do this, you can use a simple marinade by mixing crushed and finely chopped garlic, soy sauce and a little olive oil. Pour the chicken thighs with this mixture, sprinkle them with black and red pepper, make sure that each chicken thigh is covered with marinade on all sides, put them in a bowl or plastic container, close tightly with a lid and refrigerate for several hours. So, if you are going to serve this dish in the evening, you can marinate the meat in the morning.

Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices. The onion can be cut into half rings. Tear off a piece of foil from the roll, you will need about 40 cm for each leg. Make a vegetable “pillow” for the leg. Place some chopped onion in the middle of the foil, then a layer of potato slices on top of it. Season the potatoes with salt and pepper, sprinkle with onions and make another layer of the potatoes. Season with salt and pepper, top with a piece of butter. Put the chicken leg on top of the potato, taking it out of the marinade and sprinkling with grated nutmeg.

Fold the foil into an envelope, joining the opposite edges first, and then tightly wrapping all the seams. Be sure to leave some space inside each envelope so that the steam does not burst it when the chicken is cooked. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Place the leg envelopes on a tray and place in the oven.

After 40-50 minutes, remove the pallet and slightly open the envelopes from above, taking care not to break the integrity of the side seams. Increase the temperature in the oven to 200 degrees and place the pan in it for another 15-20 minutes. This is necessary so that a beautiful ruddy crust forms on the legs that lie on top of the potato layer.
