How to choose a Korean DVR

In order for the gadget to fully meet all your expectations, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the criteria by which you can choose the best Korean DVRs:

  • Screen. Some models of recorders may not have a screen. If it is, pay attention to its size, the presence or absence of frames that reduce the working area of the screen. The screen can have different resolutions, from 1.5 to 3.5 inches diagonally. The larger the screen, the easier it is to set the necessary parameters and it is more convenient to view the material that has been captured.
  • dimensions. Give preference to compact models that do not take up much space in the car and do not block the view when installed in the windshield area.
  • Management. It can be push-button, touch or from a smartphone. Which option to choose depends on the preferences of the buyer. Button models are more responsive, while touch models can freeze a bit in sub-zero temperatures. DVRs that are controlled from a smartphone are among the most convenient. To view and download videos, such models do not need to be connected to a computer.
  • Equipment. Choose gadgets with the maximum configuration so that you do not have to buy anything separately. In most cases, the kit includes: registrar, battery, recharging, mounting, instructions.
  • Additional features. There are models that, in addition to the registrar function, can be used as radar detectors. Such gadgets also fix cameras on the roads, warning and recommending the driver to slow down.
  • Viewing angle and number of cameras. Depending on the available viewing angle, the DVR will shoot and capture a certain area. The larger the viewing angle, the better. It is recommended to choose models whose visibility is at least 140 degrees. Standard DVRs have one camera. But there are models with two cameras that can capture even those actions that occur from the sides of the car and from behind.
  • Shooting quality. It is very important that in both photo and video mode there is good detail day and night. Models with HD 1280×720 pixels are rare, as this quality is not the best. It is recommended to consider the following options: Full HD 1920×1080 pixels, Super HD 2304×1296. The physical resolution of the matrix also affects the quality of the video recording. In order to shoot in high resolution (1080p), the matrix must be at least 2, and ideally 4-5 megapixels.
  • Functional. DVRs can have various useful features such as Wi-Fi, GPS, improved night vision and others.

Popular questions and answers

The most frequently asked questions about the choice and use of Korean DVRs were answered by Yury Kalynedelya, T1 Group technical support engineer.

What parameters should you pay attention to first of all?

Viewing angle registrar should be 135° and above. The values below will not show what is happening on the side of the car.

Mount. Before choosing a DVR, you need to decide on the method of its installation in your car, the required type of attachment depends on this. There are three main ones: on the suction cup to the windshield, on the double-sided tape, on the rearview mirror. The most reliable are the last two, the expert said.

Suction cup attachment to the windshield leaves no residue during quick disassembly. It is convenient when you frequently move the recorder from one machine to another. The downside is that such a mount transmits a lot of vibrations due to the large number of moving mechanisms, which affects the quality of the picture. Attachments to a mirror, and even more so to a double-sided tape, are less susceptible to this effect.

Permission videos. On sale there are registrars with video recording resolution – 2K and 4K. However, in practice, when buying such a model, I recommend lowering the resolution to 1920×1080. Most devices are not capable of processing high-quality video at the same time as applying enhancement features. As a result, the image quality will be lower than the lower resolution. With an artificial decrease to 1920×1080, the registrar will have time to process the video, provide you with optimal quality and take up much less space on the flash drive, said Yuri Kalynedelya

The presence of a rear camera – a good addition to the capabilities of the registrar. There are recorders with a rear view camera for parking. If your car is equipped with such a camera, then the image from it will be transmitted to the display of such models of the registrar when reverse gear is engaged.

Screen presence. Not all registrars have it, but it is good because it provides an opportunity to view recorded files quickly and with great convenience, the expert shared.

Image enhancement. Check for the WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) function. It allows you to make the video more balanced: in bright light and in the absence of light, dark and light areas will be displayed in high quality.

Stabilization. A big plus to the functions of the registrar is the presence of EIS – electronic image stabilization.

GPS. Do not neglect the GPS function (Global Positioning System – satellite navigation system). Thanks to her, the registrar will record the speed at which the car moved and the data where it happened.

Parking monitoring. The parking monitoring feature is not for everyone, but it is useful if you live in a busy area. The recorder will automatically start recording if something happens to your car, said Yuri Kalynedelya.

Wi-Fi. With the Wi-Fi function, you can quickly connect your phone and watch videos from your smartphone. However, it will come in handy only if you need regular access to video, since the process of transferring video files is hampered by the need to install a special application, connect the recorder to the network and low video transfer speed.

What parameters should a matrix have for high-quality shooting?

The quality of the image depends on the quality of the matrix. The characteristics of the device may not contain the number of lenses, but the matrix manufacturer is always indicated.

The viewing angle must be 135° or more. The values below will not show what is happening on the side of the car. Resolutions up to 5 megapixels are more than enough to record videos in Full HD or Quad HD. In particular, 4 MP is optimal for Full HD, 5 MP for Quad HD. 8 MP resolution will allow you to get 4K quality.

However, there is a downside to high resolution. The more pixels, the larger the image needs to be processed by the DVR processor and the more resources to use. In practice, when buying a model with a high resolution, I recommend lowering it to 1920×1080. Most devices can’t handle high-quality video processing while applying enhancement features. As a result, the image quality will be lower than the lower resolution.
