Alantan Plus is a prescription drug that is available as an ointment or cream. The preparation is applied topically to the skin, it exfoliates, carries and soothes. Alantan Plus is intended for adults, children and infants. Before using the drug, please read the instructions for use and possible side effects.

Alantan Plus – what is this drug?

Alantan Plus is an over-the-counter (OTC) drug, available as an ointment or cream for use on the skin. In both forms, it is suitable for use with adults and children, including infants. The active substances of Alantan Plus cream and ointment are allantoin and dexpanthenol.

Alantan Plus – action

Alantan Plus is a preparation used for skin care, especially for skin prone to drying, irritation or keratosis. As an alternative, it can also be used for local alleviation of changes associated with certain skin diseases and the treatment of skin lesions. The preparation has a protective and nurturing effect, and also accelerates the wound healing process. Allantoin and dexpanthenol are active substances that affect the properties of Alantan Plus:

  1. dekspantenol – as an alcohol analog of pantothenic acid, it supports the skin regeneration process; has anti-inflammatory properties, soothes irritations and eliminates itching. Thanks to the ability to bind water, it also increases the elasticity of the skin.
  2. allantoin – acts keratolically, has protective properties, improves skin hydration, and stimulates the growth of new tissues, thanks to which it has a positive effect on wound healing.

Alantan Plus – indications for use

Alantan Plus, available in the form of ointments and cream, is used in:

  1. care for dry skin prone to irritation;
  2. topical treatment of wounds of various origins, e.g. abrasions, cracks in the skin or small cuts;
  3. supporting the treatment of burns under phototherapy or radiotherapy, as well as sunburn;
  4. relieving hyperkeratosis of the skin of the hands and feet.

In addition, the preparation can prevent chafing in infants and support care in the case of atopic dermatitis, rhinitis, leg ulcers or allergic eczema.

Alantan Plus – dosage

Alantan Plus in the form of an ointment or cream is intended for topical application. The preparation should be apply to the affected areas 1 or several times a day. In the case of baby skin care in areas prone to chafing, it is recommended to use the preparation after each diaper change. It should be remembered that before using the drug, the skin should be washed and thoroughly dried.

From the moment of opening the package, Alantan Plus should be used within 6 months, because after this time the product expires.

Alantan Plus – contraindications to use

The use of Alantan Plus is not safe and recommended in all situations. The preparation should not be used in the case of:

  1. hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the preparation, i.e. allergy to allantoin, dexpanthenol or any other component of the cream or ointment;
  2. skin lesions in the period of acute inflammation accompanied by oozing lesions.

The preparation is not intended for use in the eyes.

Alantan Plus – composition

The main ingredients of Alantan Plus are active substances – allantoin (20 mg / 1 g of the product) and dexpanthenol (50 mg / 1 g of the product). Additionally, the preparation contains the following substances (depending on the form of the drug):

  1. cream: lanolin, liquid paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, methyl parahydroxybenzoate and propyl parahydroxybenzoate, Polawax NF, purified water;
  2. ointment: lanolin, white petrolatum, liquid paraffin, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, purified water.

Alantan Plus – warnings

Before using Alantan Plus ointment or cream, it is advisable to read the precautions for use listed in the leaflet. Alantan Plus warnings:

  1. the preparation should be applied only topically to the skin;
  2. in the event of any discomfort, discontinue the treatment and contact your doctor;
  3. due to the presence of methyl, ethyl and propyl parahydroxybenzoate (cream) and ethyl parahydroxybenzoate (ointment), there is a possibility of allergic reactions after using Alantan Plus;
  4. discontinuation of the drug is recommended when hypersensitivity symptoms such as itching or redness appear at the site of its administration;
  5. consult a doctor before using the preparation in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
