A Polish-speaking nurse helps victims of an accident in Croatia

The nurse, who works in a hospital in Zagreb, has Polish roots. Her mother is Polish, she lives and lives in Croatia, she is fluent in both Croatian and Polish. It definitely makes it easier to work in a country that is a popular tourist destination for our compatriots.

Knowledge of the Polish language was also useful yesterday, when the victims of a coach accident with Polish pilgrims were brought to the hospital where he works. As the nurse reports for «Večernja list», the night shift was just finishing its shift, but everyone stayed in the ward to help the injured.

«When we heard that there was a traffic accident, we were all on call, because in such situations we have to stay. Somewhere around 9 o’clock we went home, and around 10 o’clock the head nurse called me »the woman said.

When asked to return to her workplace, the nurse immediately agreed. It turned out that Croatian hospital staff had problems communicating with the injured Poles.

«Of course, I agreed immediately. It was more of a psychological help. When you are abroad, you feel better hearing your own language »she explains, adding that she tried to comfort the victims. «I told them that we watch over and care for them all. This makes it much easier for them ».

The accident in Croatia happened yesterday morning on the A4 motorway, north of Zagreb, near Jarek Bisaszki and Podvorec. 11 people died on the spot, 12 the traveler died in the hospital. 28 people remain in hospitals, most of them are in serious condition. Four pilgrims with less injuries have already returned to Poland.
