8 household habits that get in the way of curing a cold

Instructions on what NOT to do in order to recover sooner.

Sleep, bed, the right medication and adherence to the regime is the key to a speedy recovery. But sometimes, even following all the doctor’s prescriptions, we still get sick for a long time and seriously. So maybe it’s our habits that delay the recovery period? We will tell you which of them move your body away from the cherished goal – to be healthy and what should not be done during the period of a cold.

Drink coffee and milk

What is coffee? This is cheerfulness, increased pressure, an additional source of energy. During the period of a cold, coffee is tachycardia, increased stress on the heart and clogging of the stomach with the wrong drink that a weakened body needs. Plus, caffeine leads to dehydration, and one of the main rules for a cold is to drink more clean water (or healthy drinks such as fruit drinks, decoctions, compotes). If coffee is also with milk, then a cough and a runny nose will torment you longer: because of the milk, the mucus becomes even more. So you should forget about folk methods such as milk with butter and honey for colds.

Wash your hands rarely

Disease-causing germs are everywhere. There are especially many of them on our hands. In the autumn-winter period, special attention should be paid to hygiene issues and hand washing should not be ignored. This will prevent germs from multiplying and spreading and will help you get back on your feet faster if you get mowed down by a cold. And it will save you from infection. After all, we bring many viruses home literally in our hands. And ARVI is far from the only attack; viruses settle on the palms and are more terrible.

Keep windows closed

As our mothers used to say: gymnastics, hardening the body and airing the premises are the key to health! During a cold, many try to wrap themselves up in thirty-three blankets, and at the sight of an open window they become terrified. But viruses and bacteria are not only in the body, but also on objects in the house, especially in the sick room. Therefore, an inflow of fresh air is simply necessary for human health, saturation of both the room and the lungs with oxygen! It is also recommended not to dress too warmly, it is better to wear pajamas made from natural fabrics that are pleasant to the body.

Walking around the house in street shoes

Viruses and infections can be spread not only by airborne droplets, but also by objects, especially if they are breeding grounds for bacteria. And shoes may well be such an item. After all, someone spat on the street, and we followed … Many of us have cases when, going home from the street, we take off our shoes not in the corridor, but almost at the entrance to the room. Or, in a hurry, we forget something and jump from the threshold for keys or a phone – again, in street shoes. Fu, it seems like it’s time to clean the floor.

Overuse air conditioning

It is believed that there are more viruses in winter than in the warm season, because people are more likely to get sick in winter. It is a myth! In fact, viruses react to weather conditions: frosts and intense heat kill them, but a dry and warm climate only seduces. But! In winter, all rooms are heated by batteries and air conditioners, which means that the air is dry and the rooms are quite warm, but not hot. It is an ideal environment for bacteria and infections to emerge and multiply. With such a dry home microclimate, human mucous membranes lack moisture, so it’s easier for viruses to attack us. Therefore, those who, during the period of a cold, abuse air conditioning and do not ventilate the room, postpone their recovery.

Ignore drinking regimen

This, of course, is not about coffee and other drinks that will not benefit the body during a cold. It’s about banal, but life-giving clean water. It promotes the early flushing of toxins from the body. Berry fruit drinks, teas, herbal teas, natural compotes will also not harm. But it is important to remember that drinks at room temperature or warm are useful, and not hot, burning the throat and intensifying inflammatory processes in the body.

Taking a bath that is too hot

Poor personal hygiene can make a cold worse. And the fact that it is absolutely impossible to swim during the period of illness is a myth! If you do not wash, the pores become clogged and the skin will not breathe well, from this its excretory functions will deteriorate and the accumulated toxins will not be able to escape through sweat and skin secretions. But do not overdo it with water procedures: doctors recommend wiping with a towel, taking a shower with a comfortable water temperature, and not a hot bath in the hope of expelling the disease from the body.

Eat fast food and fatty foods

During illness, our body is busy with more important things than digesting heavy food. He has so many tasks: to wake up the immune system, to defeat harmful bacteria, and to restore all functions … But very often we ignore our own appetite (which, by the way, is an important signal and notifies us that all the body’s reserves are thrown into recovery!) And we continue to eat our usual food. However, on days of illness, it is worth eating something lighter, preparing dishes that are quickly absorbed: cereals, soups, boiled vegetables. Only hodgepodge should be avoided – this soup is harmful to healthy people.
