The government is optimistic about the latest COVID-19 data in Poland: — I recommended to the prime minister that from the beginning of April, the solutions regarding wearing masks, applying quarantine and isolating — said the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski this week.
Doctors think it’s too early. In an interview for Gazeta Wyborcza, Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, expert of the Supreme Medical Council on COVID-19, notes that the rate of decline in the number of infections has recently decreased, which is not a good omen: “On Wednesday, March 16, this number even increased compared to previous days. There were over 14 thousand. new infections. (…) Many people have lost their brakes by the end of pandemic messages» — explains.

He also draws attention to the fact that in connection with the war in Ukraine, 2 million refugees have already arrived in Poland, and our eastern neighbors have a lower degree of vaccination. This poses a threat of an increase in morbidity in Poland.
The second round of Omikron in Poland
The doctor sees the cause of the increase in infections in an Omicron mutation, called BA.2. «It’s getting there (in Western Europe — ed.) the second round of Omikron, which we will observe in Poland in three or four weeks. (…) Those who were sick in January may be infected again in April. Secondly, there is a decrease in vaccine immunity, which will also increase infections. The doctor cited studies that showed that in the case of Omikron, 30 percent. is still positive one week after infection. He emphasized that the elimination of the virus in the case of Omikron is slower, as it takes about two weeks. He added that Omikron is not mild for immunocompromised and unvaccinated people, and many people can get sick: «Omikron in Poland had a disease of only 30 percent. society. Dr. Grzesiowski believes that lockdown would be unjustified, as would isolation in the case of a mild Omicron course. In his opinion, the obligation to wear masks indoors should remain, “especially in groups of unknown status”. He added that new vaccines will be of key importance, but we still have to wait for these.
