Why summer residents shouldn’t kill vipers
But I don’t want to put up with such a neighborhood on the site either. We figure out what to do.
Albeit with a creak, but the authorities still allowed, despite the quarantine, to travel to their dachas. And there is now a lot to do. But what is most unpleasant, snakes appeared on the sites. And it would be okay to harmless snakes and snakes – vipers are often found. But it is categorically impossible to kill them – now we will tell you why.
Kill cannot be pardoned
In many regions of Russia, this species of snake is listed in the Red Book, which means that it is at least illegal to kill vipers. For this, you can get a fine of 3000 rubles. Secondly, it is pointless to kill her, since she does not pose a danger to a person.
Snakes are not the most “social” creatures. They do not at all strive to be friends with a person and do not seek meetings with him. They, as introverted beings, prefer isolation. But the fact that the vipers were on your site only says that something attracted them to it. What could it be? First: mice and other rodents. If there are a lot of living creatures on your site, then for the snake your land becomes a tasty place for hunting and food. The second: at your dacha there are piles of rubbish or construction waste that no one touches or removes for a long time! Such slides of objects will be an excellent shelter for the snake, and it will settle there.
And thirdly, it is simply inhumane to kill a living creature, especially since they never attack first. In addition, these reptiles even help the summer resident with the housework: they exterminate the rodents that spoil the planting.
How to discourage a guest?
Just do not create conditions for her to be close to you: sort out the garbage, trash and other things in which the vipers love to hide so much. Do not create abandoned places in the summer cottage, put everything in order and support it. Get rid of rodents, cultivate the land, plantings. This, by the way, is important to do regardless of whether there are vipers in the country or not: rodents are carriers of dangerous diseases. Get a cat – he will help to cope with mice, thereby depriving the snake of its food supply.
And do not drive away hedgehogs – they are even less dangerous to humans than snakes, but unsafe for vipers. Do not exterminate hedgehog holes and do not frighten them when you meet.
Another gardening option to ward off a snake from your area is garlic. Plant him, and he will chase away the viper with his delicate aroma, for them this smell is completely unbearable.
Ecologists say that vipers are lovers of settling near people. They like the area in which a person stays rarely or temporarily. After all, predators are not found there, the vegetation is partially cut or burnt, and snakes can bask in the sun and not be afraid of attacks from animals.
What to do if you run into a viper
Don’t make sudden, frightening movements. Snakes are not aggressive as long as they are not touched or threatened. Quietly and calmly move to the other side, the viper will follow your example and crawl away. When walking around the site, be sure to look under your feet: if you step on the snake or scare it, it can attack.
First aid for a snake bite
1. Take an antihistamine to avoid an allergic reaction
2. Fix the bitten part in one position. Immobility will help prevent the poison from spreading through the body too quickly.
3. Suck out the poison. Not many will dare to do this, but the method is effective. However, it is important to know that this action is only effective in the first 15 minutes after the bite.
4. Go to the hospital and get medical attention as soon as possible.
