Why do spathiphyllum leaves turn yellow, what to do

Determining the exact cause of the yellowing is not easy. The most common of them can be noted:

• violation of the irrigation regime – the plant lacks moisture;
• low room temperature;
• direct sunlight;
• dry air in the room;
• changes in the balance of mineral content;
• small insects that can live in a flower pot.

Leaves may turn yellow in adult spathiphyllums and after a long flowering period. The plant expends a large amount of nutrients to form a flower. As a result, the leaves can turn yellow and fall off. In order to avoid such problems in the future, the plant needs to be fed and transplanted into a pot of a suitable size at least twice a year.

For proper flower care, you must adhere to some tips:

• place the plant in a warm room away from direct sunlight;
• remove the flower away from batteries;
• if there is dry air in the room, then next to the flower pot you need to put a container with water or use a special air humidifier;
• regularly spray the leaves with water from a spray bottle and wipe with a damp cloth;
• it is impossible for moisture to accumulate in the soil;
• in winter, the plant needs to be watered less often;
• if the leaves turn yellow, the plant can be fed with a special fertilizer containing magnesium sulfate, if necessary, transplanted into another container;
• if pests are detected on the plant, treat the leaves with insecticides. If insects are found in the soil, then the flower must be transplanted and fed;
• a flowerpot that is too small can also cause discoloration of the leaves. In this case, it is enough to transplant the spathiphyllum into a larger pot.

If the necessary measures are taken, the leaves will recover and acquire a natural color. It is better to remove dying leaves so that they do not become a breeding ground for small pests. Spathiphyllum is a rather unpretentious plant that, with proper care, will delight the owner for a long time with green leaves and beautiful flowers.
