The ideal medicine cabinet for your baby

For each of your child’s little ailments, there is a remedy! We guide you to have the essentials in your medicine cabinet.

To lower the fever

Before giving any medicine for fever, make sure the child actually has it by using a thermometer.

On the treatment side, the paracetamol (Doliprane®, Efferalgan®…) stands out as the greatest classic in anti-fever and painkillers. It is found in an oral suspension, in a sachet to be diluted or in a suppository. If the fever is associated with other disorders and in some special cases, a doctor is called.

To treat small wounds

Shallow cut or light scratch: when faced with an open wound, the first reflex to have is to wash your hands before touching it. To disinfect, alcohol and products based on iodine derivatives (Betadine®, Poliodine®, etc.) should be avoided without medical advice for children under 3 years of age. Choose one instead antiseptic spray, alcohol-free and colorless (Dermaspray® or Biseptine® type). To protect the wound, prefer a Pad “Special for children”, funnier and water resistant.

A bruise on the knee or a small bump on the forehead? A massage at the arnica, in gel or cream, remains the best weapon.

To calm stomach aches

In case of diarrhea, only one watchword: rehydrate. With water of course, but preferably also with a oral rehydration solution (ORS): Adiaril®, Hydrigoz®… Dissolved in 200 ml of slightly mineralized water (the same as that in baby bottles), it must be given regularly and in small quantities.

The inactivated lactobacilli (Lactéol®) are antidiarrheals which promote the restoration of the intestinal flora. They come in sachets of powder for oral suspension and must be accompanied by dietary measures (rice, carrots, applesauce, cookies, etc.).

If the diarrhea is accompanied by fever and / or vomiting, it may be gastroenteritis. It is then necessary to consult a doctor.

To soothe burns and stings

In the event of a 1st degree burn, such as sunburn, use a calming cream anti-scald (Biafine®). If the burn is of the 2nd degree (with a blister) or of the 3rd degree (the skin is destroyed), go directly to the doctor in the first case and to the emergency room in the second.

For itching associated with insect bites, there are soothing gels that we apply locally. However, be careful, they are not always suitable for the youngest.

To treat a runny nose

It’s trivial, but it should not be neglected. Indeed, it is better to avoid it causing complications (significant discomfort for breathing, mucus that falls on the throat…). To clean the nose, the physiological serum in pods or seawater sprays (Physiomer®, Stérimar®…) are ideal. But be careful not to overdo it, at the risk of causing the opposite effect and causing the secretions to fall backwards, directly on the bronchi. Their use can be followed by that of a Baby Fly in order to suck the excess left in the nose.

To relieve teething

From 4 months and up to about 2 and a half years, teething punctuates the life of a baby. To relieve it, there are calming gels (Dolodent®, Delabarre® gingival gel, etc.) with uneven effectiveness, and ghomeopathic frogs (Chamomilla 9 ch). In the event of very large attacks, such as when several teeth pierce the gum at the same time, a painkiller may be prescribed by the doctor who follows the child.

To heal damaged buttocks

During episodes of teething or diarrhea, babies’ fragile buttocks are quickly irritated. To protect the seat from urine and stool, choose a special “irritation” ointment with healing properties (Mitosyl®, Aloplastine®) to be applied in a thick layer at each change (as frequently as possible). If the skin is oozing, you can use a anti-bacterial drying lotion (Cicalfate®, Cytelium®), then cover with cream.
