In this publication, we will consider the definition, features, main elements and types of one of the main geometric shapes – a regular polygon.

Definition of a regular polygon

regular polygon is a convex polygon with all sides and angles equal.

Signs of a regular n-gon

• a₁ = A₂ = A₃ = … a_n-1 = A_n
• α₁ = a₂ = a₃ = … a_n-1 = a_n

Note: n – the number of sides / corners of the figure.

Regular polygon elements

For the picture above:

• a – side/edge;
• α is the angle between adjacent sides;
• O – the center of the figure/mass (coincides with the centers of the circumscribed and inscribed circles);
• b – the central angle of the circumscribed circle, based on the side of the polygon.

Types of regular polygons
