Hello dear readers! Rorschach spots are a projective technique that allows you to find out the characteristics of the qualities and properties of the personality of the person being tested. It was created by Hermann Rorschach back in 1921, a year after its creation, he died, but his technique is still very popular to this day. And today I propose to get acquainted with it, as well as try to test yourself on your own, perhaps there are nuances in your character that you do not know about.
Instructions
The subject is offered a series of pictures (10 pieces) with ink stains. Five of them are presented in black, three are multi-colored, and two are mixed, red and black. It is necessary to carefully read each card, and in a certain sequence (taking into account it, we will get acquainted with the pictures today). Then put forward an assumption that it resembles.
It is important to share all the fantasies that arise as a reaction to what you have seen. It is allowed to turn the picture over, turn it in your hands and look at it for as long as it takes to “highlight” a certain clear image.
If for some reason it becomes impossible to describe what he saw, then this may signal that in this period of life a person blocks some area due to non-acceptance of it, or in the event of psychological trauma and stress.
After the subject has been introduced to each spot, his answers are analyzed and calculated using certain mathematical formulas, so that the result is a complete description of his personality type.
Cards and their interpretation
You can take this test yourself, simply by choosing the most appropriate answer, the one that resonates with you.
1. Butterfly, moth or bat
The first picture uses only black ink, and it symbolizes how a person perceives new information and how he reacts to stress. So if you see:
- Bat — this is something magical, symbolizing the difficult path to change and rebirth.
- Moth — says that the individual is not completely satisfied with how he looks, he is irritable and has low self-esteem. It seems to him that others do not notice his merits.
- Butterfly — means that at the moment some changes and changes are taking place with a person. The new is entering his life and he is in the process of overcoming obstacles.
- The muzzle of any animal is an unwillingness to learn something about oneself, the subject tries to ignore and avoid difficulties in every possible way, or the problem that is currently present in his life.
2. Two people
Basically, this picture is perceived with sexual overtones. Although in fact it is “responsible” for manifestations of anger, the ability to control one’s feelings, and also signals whether the person being tested is experiencing pain in a given period of time. Most common fantasies:
- Two figures — such a person is dependent on others, that is, he usually chooses as partners those with whom it becomes possible to «merge into one whole.» She also says that sex takes a very significant place in her life, sometimes causing an obsession with it.
- The figure of a man looking at himself in the mirror — I think it’s clear what narcissism, self-centeredness and sometimes pomposity means.
- Dog — characterizes such an individual as kind and devoted, incapable of betrayal and treason. If this dog seems angry and frightening, it is important to try to realize what is really happening in real life, what kind of fear prevents you from “breathing” deeply and being calm.
- Elephant — speaks of a good memory and developed thinking, the lively mind of his «master», very rarely — the denial and rejection of his body.
- Bear — this personality is aggressive, at least at the moment. She is honest, open, independent and along with all of the above — sensitive and vulnerable.
- A praying person, around whom there is blood — at the moment the subject is living a difficult life, he feels a lot of anger and even pain.
3. Two figures, butterfly, moth
The most commonly seen images are:
- Two people at the table — activity and popularity, testifies to a busy public life.
- People wash their hands — it is quite likely that paranoia, that is, persecution mania and obsessive thoughts, will occur. The individual feels morally dirty, vulnerable and insecure.
- People are playing something — a high level of tension, the need to compete, trying to take first place.
- A person looks in the mirror — again, egocentrism and narcissism, the inability to accept others as they are.
4. Hide, carpet, leather
This card is called the “father figure” because the male image is more often seen. Sometimes it seems mystical and creepy, reminiscent of a monster or monster. In fact, it symbolizes the attitude of the individual to those more powerful and authoritative than she is. So what exactly did you see?
- A huge creature, an animal, a monster — those who have power and power inspire horror in you, you revere them and submit to them. Basically refers to the relationship to the parent.
- Skin, skin — the topic of parents can cause significant discomfort, although there are cases that indicate that, on the contrary, such a person feels quite comfortable next to leaders and authorities, and he himself may well replenish their number.
5. Moth, butterfly
This technique involves the repetition of images with the first card, and indicates an attitude towards oneself. Mostly does not cause frightening reactions or intense feelings, which is why the subject can delve into fantasies and present a more detailed story about what he sees in front of him.
It is shown mainly in order for him to rest a little after viewing more complex pictures, which may well “unsettle” him for a while, since emotional overstrain depletes and deprives him of strength, energy and resources in general.
If he saw something other than a butterfly, a moth and a bat, this indicates that he is still under the impression of the surging fantasies that arose in response to figures 2 and 4.
6. Hide, leather, carpet
As you can see, the names are repeated, only the meaning is different. This drawing symbolizes the sexual sphere, and the reaction itself is the prototype of the attitude towards intimacy or intimacy.
That is, if the test subject is apprehensive when looking at her, then one should think about how close he lets other people close to him, whether he can open up to them and whether he is able to cope with the trauma, which now causes a desire to push others away from him so that he does not have to again experience pain and disappointment.
If the skin is clearly visible — the extreme point of isolation, such an individual needs help and support, as he experiences a feeling of total loneliness.
7. Human faces, heads
Unlike the «father» card, this one is «mother» and symbolizes tenderness, femininity. In view of the foregoing, the figures of a woman and children mainly appear. It is easy to trace the existence of problems with women of their own kind (mother, grandmother, great-grandmother …) — there is a difficulty in explaining what the test person sees in front of him.
The most common answers:
- Women’s head — it is important to track what feelings arise at this moment, since they are a direct projection of feelings for the mother. Relations with her directly form the ability to communicate with people of the same sex, compete and cooperate, support and care.
- Child’s head — there is a need to allow yourself to relax and pay attention to the inner child who is deprived and did not get the opportunity to live a full, happy and carefree childhood. You should also think about how to establish contact with the mother, perhaps you should talk heart to heart with her, or else forgive for the mistakes that she made.
- The kiss is the desire to receive motherly love and acceptance, as well as to try to expand the boundaries by becoming more successful in social relationships, romantic and family.
8. Animals
The first color card, and also the most complex, it has added pink, orange, gray and blue ink. If it causes mixed feelings in the subject, then this indicates that he has a low level of stress tolerance, adaptation to new situations and, in general, difficulty in responding to difficulties.
Most often there are images of animals or insects.
9 person
The spots are not depicted at all clearly, in comparison with others, and this is not in vain, this nuance helps to find out how much the individual is able to act in conditions where there is no structure and when the situation is not particularly clear to him.
If he sees the figure of a person, then he can be congratulated, he completely copes with the lack of a system, but if fantasies arise about something mysterious and mystical, then he cannot exist without clear boundaries and frameworks, it is important for him that everything be laid out according to shelves.
10. Crab, lobster, spider
It is the final, most complex and bright. Common images:
- Crab — a person can be overly annoying and demanding attention. An interesting paradox — the more he tries to «stick» to another, the more actively he will get rid of him, as a result of which he will make even more powerful attempts to get closer.
- Omar — speaks of fortitude, the ability to cope with adversity and achieve one’s own, no matter what obstacles one has to overcome.
- Spider — suggests that the test subject is mired in his own lies, which he wove like a spider.
- Rabbit — indicates optimism and fertility.
Conclusion
And that’s all for today, dear readers! Psychology is an interesting science, especially its methodological part. By the way, I also recommend that you read the article “Why you should not confuse the concepts of motivation and stimulation.” Good luck and inspiration!
