What complications did a volunteer from Oxford get who injected the vaccine at the trial stage?

AstraZeneca, which is developing a coronavirus vaccine in partnership with the University of Oxford, has announced it is suspending research.

A volunteer from Oxford, after being injected with a vaccine developed by AstraZeneca, was diagnosed with an “unexplained” illness: he was feverish and shivering. He also complained of severe fatigue and headaches. At the same time, the second volunteer, journalist Jack Sommers, is eagerly awaiting the continuation of the study and is very upset about its suspension.

The New York Times claims that the volunteer was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, often caused by viruses. However, it remains to be seen whether this disease is directly related to the vaccine.

An injured volunteer said that he felt so unhealthy and tired that he slept for most of the second day after the injection. “I felt weak for several days after that and did not quite recover, although the symptoms were not as severe as on the first day. It was terrible, ”he said.

Journalist Jack Sommers is confident that the vaccine does not pose any danger, and is already ready for the second call. He gave his first injection back in May and has been doing great since then. The vaccine was tested by 18 people, therefore, according to the journalist, the disease of some of them is “a statistical inevitability.”
