Voluminous hairstyles: how to do it yourself? Video

Voluminous hairstyles can be created even from not too thick hair. The secret is in handling them and using good styling products. You can add fluffiness to short, medium or long hair by proper washing, skillful drying and curling, and mousses, sprays and other hair cosmetics will give the final look to the hairstyle.

Voluminous lush hairstyles

To prepare your hair for styling, you will need:

  • shampoo for volume
  • mousse conditioner
  • thermal spray
  • hairdryer with diffuser
  • round brush
  • styling mousse
  • comb with fine teeth
  • hair straightener
  • curling tongs

Lush hairstyles can only be made from flawlessly clean hair. Wash your hair with volumizing shampoo before styling. Choose a product depending on your hair type – there are shampoos on sale for oily and dry strands, colored hair and dandruff. The best option is products marked “For hair volume”. They do not contain oils and silicones, the hair after washing becomes elastic, light, voluminous. Modern styling products for creating lush hairstyles contain ultra-light polymers that envelop each hair and thicken it without weighing it down.

Do not use 2-in-1 shampoos and conditioners: they weigh the hair down and will not produce the desired volume.

Treat wet strands with conditioner mousse. Rub it thoroughly into the roots and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. The tool will remove excess static electricity, add volume to the hairstyle and not weigh down the hair. Choose very light, oil- and alcohol-free herbal mousses especially for oily hair.

The next step is proper drying. Use a hairdryer with a diffuser – it lifts the hair at the roots and adds volume to the hair. If there is no diffuser, dry the strands by lifting them up with a round brush and blowing warm air. Direct the air flow from different sides – the hairstyle will be more fluffy. Tilt your head down as you dry your hair at the crown and back of your head. Then fold back the strands and process the hair at the temples and on the forehead. Roll them around the brush away from your face. Finish drying with a cold blast; a cool blast will fix the volume.

If you want to add fluffiness to wavy hair, twist the wet strands into bundles and secure with clips. Then blow dry your hair, gently remove the hairpins and beat the curls with your fingers.

Do not comb your hair during drying: it will fall into a parting and lose volume

How to keep your hair fluffy

To make your hair look voluminous and airy, do not overdo it with styling products. Excess varnish, foams and gels will make the strands look flat and heavy. Don’t try to lock in every hair. If the styling is slightly ruffled by the wind, it will only add to its naturalness. If necessary, the hairstyle can be tweaked with a pair of bobby pins.

Choose the right place to create volume. For short haircuts, the maximum volume should fall on the crown of the head, and closer to the face it should be minimized. This hairstyle will emphasize the expressiveness of the features and create the appearance of a lush and very thick hair. If your hair is of medium length, create volume not at the ends, but in the temples.

To achieve a successful hairstyle, dry your hair thoroughly before styling. If you start styling on wet strands, they will fall off immediately after curling.

Ponytail, braid and curls: make spectacular hairstyles

Try a very trendy ponytail styling. It is suitable for long and semi-long hair, both straight and wavy.

For styling you will need:

  • hair straightener
  • styling mousse
  • hair clips
  • comb with fine teeth
  • hair brush
  • moderate hold varnish
  • thin elastic band in hair color
  • bulky elastic or large hair clip

Treat clean and well-dried hair with an iron. Grab the strands at the roots, and then lift them vertically, securing them at the roots for a few seconds. Then gently slide the pliers down to the ends of the hair. Allow hair to cool after straightening.

Divide your hair into two sections. Pin the front with a clip. Smooth the back with a brush and pull it into a high ponytail with a thin elastic band. Comb the front part of the hair thoroughly, smooth it with a brush so as not to crush the volume. Comb your hair back so that it lies in a bouncy wave. Gather the ends of the hair at the base of the ponytail and secure them with a voluminous decorative elastic band or large hair clip. Spray your hair with nail polish. If necessary, pin the strands at the temples with invisible ones. The tail can be woven into a braid, the hairstyle will look no less spectacular and lush.

Another popular option is curvy curls. To create such a hairstyle, you will need:

  • hairbrush
  • electric curling iron
  • fixing spray
  • hair spray

Divide clean, dry hair into small strands, spray with fixing spray and curl with tongs from ends to roots. Hold the device upright at the hair roots and fix it for a few seconds.

Curl your hair in different directions for a natural look

Let the curls cool, then tilt your head, throw your hair down and fluff it up with your hands. Fold back the curls and sprinkle them with varnish. Do not brush your hair; a comb or brush will flatten it and reduce the volume of styling.
