Violet leaf spots

Violet leaf spots

The stains on violets not only spoil the appearance of the plant. They mean that the flower is unhealthy. Indoor violets are delicate and capricious plants that immediately react to any changes in their conditions. Therefore, if the type of foliage has changed, it’s time to take action before you lose your favorite flower.

Why do spots appear on violets

To get rid of these whimsical flowers from stains, it is important to understand why such a problem appeared. This will help prevent disease and improve the appearance of violets.

Violet spots do not always indicate a disease.

The spots on the leaves of the violet can be of various colors and shapes:

  • spots with black dots on the leaves indicate a fungal infection. It is often accompanied by the formation of pustules and growths;
  • round brown spots are caused by sunburn and do not pose a threat to other plants. Spots of the same color can appear when watering the plant with cold water. Brown-brown spots appear on flowers growing in a pot of alkaline soil;
  • from a draft, delicate leaves can become covered with white and light brown spots of various shapes;
  • grayish-whitish spots occur with powdery mildew disease. Violets infected with this disease can lose their leaves and stop blooming.

The appearance of spots does not always indicate the presence of infection; they often appear when the violets are handled improperly. Knowing why leaves and flowers are stained can help you get rid of them quickly and easily.

What to do if spots appear on the violet

To get rid of the spots that have appeared on the violet, you need:

  • remove all diseased leaves and flowers and isolate diseased plants from healthy ones;
  • move the pots from the south side to the windowsills of the north side or put a mirror film screen in front of the violet;
  • transplant a violet from a pot with alkaline soil to a new one with acidic soil;
  • avoid drafts.

It is important to create conditions that prevent the incidence of powdery mildew: feed violets with fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium, plant plants in special soil from a flower shop. If the powdery mildew did little harm to the plant, you can treat the violet once a week with a weak solution of potassium permanganate – 1 g per 0,25 liter of water.

By following these tips and creating good conditions for keeping the violets, you can avoid deteriorating the appearance of the plants. For the patience and care shown, violets will thank you with a delicate aroma and bright flowering.
