Urosept is an over-the-counter herbal preparation with a diuretic effect. It is administered as an aid in the case of urinary tract infections or urolithiasis. Urosept is in the form of tablets for oral use, containing plant extracts. When using Urosept, follow the recommendations contained in the leaflet, pay attention to contraindications and possible side effects, and observe the dosage.
Urosept – indications for use
Urosept is a mild OTC (over-the-counter) herbal medicine that acts as a diuretic. It is not intended for emergency use, but for long-term auxiliary treatment in people with urolithiasis or urinary tract infections.
The beneficial effect of Urosept in the mentioned cases results from anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of the drug, as well as preventing the precipitation of stones in the urinary system. The diuretic effect additionally facilitates the flushing of bacteria that may multiply and cause inflammation recurrence.
When taking Urosept, it is not recommended to discontinue the drug as soon as symptoms subside. Continued treatment reduces the risk of infection recurrence.
Urosept – composition
Urosept consists of the following active substances:
- thick extract of birch leaves, bean fruit and parsley root;
- fruit of powdered beans;
- chamomile herb dry extract;
- lingonberry leaf dry extract;
- sodium citrate;
- potassium citrate.
Additionally, the preparation contains auxiliary substances: lactose monohydrate, sucrose, talc, citric acid monohydrate, potato starch, magnesium stearate, gum arabic, indigotine (E132), Capol 1295 (mixture of white beeswax and carnauba wax).
Urosept – the appearance of the drug
Urosept is an available drug sugar-coated tablets – they are blue, round and biconvex. Darker discoloration of the drug coating may appear during storage of the tablets, but this does not affect the properties of the preparation.
Urosept – dosage
Urosept tablets can be taken by adults and children older than 12 years. According to the leaflet, the recommended dosage of the preparation is to take 2 tablets 3 times a day. The drug is administered orally with water.
Long-term treatment with Urosept is recommended under the supervision of a doctor, especially if the patient is undergoing a combined treatment and uses other medications.
Urosept – contraindications
Urosept should not be used when the patient has allergy to Asteraceae plants (Asteraceae/Compositae) or any ingredient of the drug. The preparation is not recommended for children up to 12 years of age, as well as for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

Urosept – what precautions should you take?
Before using Urosept tablets, you should exercise caution and pay attention to the warnings in the package leaflet, including:
- due to the lack of data on the safety of the drug in some groups of people, it should not be taken by pregnant and lactating women, as well as children under 12 years of age;
- reaching for Urosept is not recommended in people with edema resulting from renal failure or heart failure;
- it is recommended to contact a doctor in the case of people with sugar intolerance, because Urosept contains lactose and sucrose;
- one of the ingredients of the drug is parsley root extract, which, due to its photosensitizing properties, may cause skin changes in some people (in the case of light skin and increased exposure to sunlight);
- Urosept’s interactions with other drugs are unknown, therefore it is recommended to discuss the current medications and medications that the patient is taking with their physician.
Urosept – side effects
With any medication, there may be a risk of side effects. In the case of Urosept, no side effects have been reported so far, but caution should be exercised in the case of potential allergies to the ingredients of the product and other contraindications to the use of this medicinal product. Skin changes after taking Urosept are possible in some people due to the content of parsley root extract in tablets. In case of any side effects, please inform your doctor or pharmacist about them.
