Millions of people sit in offices for hours and even after work move less than 30 minutes on their way home, and from public transport or cars move to the sofa in front of the TV. This lifestyle carries a high risk of diabetes, obesity and, subsequently, cardiovascular problems.
According to Professor Marc Hamilton of the University of Missouri, many of us underestimate the enormous potential threat of long sitting. According to his research, prolonged sitting can be equated with smoking or prolonged exposure to the sun.
“Many of us simply do not realize the enormous potential threat of long sitting. I view sitting for extended periods of time with the same disapproval as an oncologist views long periods of time.
It is noteworthy that according to the results of another study carried out by specialists from the International Diabetes Institute in Melbourne, it turned out that even two hours of active physical activity a day can not fully compensate for the fact that the rest of the time a person moves very little.
The research results will be published in the November issue of the journal
