The Guide to Hair Removal During Pregnancy

Hair removal and pregnancy: the razor for those in a hurry

In spite of its disadvantages (the hair grows back at full speed, very coarse and prickly), the razor has many advantages. Its fans (more than 50% of women) are especially fond of its disposable version which slips easily into the toiletry bag and allows you to be smooth and soft everywhere in no time. In addition, when you do not skip the application of foam or gel that helps the blade to slide better, it is completely painless, even and especially on the sensitive areas of the armpits and bikini line.

Waxing pregnant: depilatory creams and foams for comforters

If you are one of those people who are put off by the razor because of its too masculine side but who still refuse to suffer in order to get a clean skin, adopt them. Easy to use, a little slower than a razor, depilatory creams and foams keep the skin soft for longer because the hair, burnt by their sulfur components, sees its rounded end and lacks vigor in regrowth. Be careful, in case of hypersensitive epidermis, irritations and allergies are always possible. And some formulations contain unwanted toxic substances (endocrine disruptors in particular) to be avoided during pregnancy.

To know :

To make sure you don’t suffer from allergy or irritation from the depilatory cream, apply a little product to the crook of the elbow before making a full application the next day.

Hair removal and pregnancy: wax for perfectionists

Hot or lukewarm wax is not recommended during pregnancy because it promotes venous disorders. Otherwise, we can use cold wax strips, a little less effective. But wax remains “the” ideal solution to have your legs shaved for several weeks. On the armpits and the bikini line, it’s possible, but you have to be an expert to avoid hurting yourself, even if homemade waxing is no longer a feat. With the appearance of oriental waxes which are heated in the microwave, applied with a roll-on and removed with water, traditional waxes have also been perfected. They fluidize at a lower temperature, spread out better, heat up in really practical devices and there are even specific oils available to eliminate the residues that adhere to the leg. Despite all these innovations, waxing takes time and courage because the pulling is painful.

Electric epilators, an excellent compromise for waxing pregnant

Practical, easy to use, without contraindication, these small devices pull the hair out at the root and keep the skin clear for a long time. Less efficient than wax, they sometimes cut certain hairs without tearing them, which accelerates their regrowth and promotes the appearance of ingrown hairs. On the other hand, they hurt less and less, because manufacturers equip them with numbing massage systems, soothing cream diffusers, anesthetic ice applicator or even hair guides that eliminate unnecessary tightness. However, beware of the sensitive areas of the bikini line and underarms. For optimal satisfaction, they should be used after bathing or showering, when the softened hair comes off more easily and scrub your skin regularly.

The institute, a good plan at the end of pregnancy

Waxing your legs yourself has become a headache in recent weeks. The skin, sensitized, is more easily attacked by the razor or the depilatory cream and reaching the bottom of the calves turns into a tour de force when the belly hinders the freedom to bend down. To stay clean until the end, consider offering yourself a hair removal salon. Ask the beautician who she prefers to use a warm or cold wax, better indicated during pregnancy.

The laser, great for before and after, but not during!

Not recommended during pregnancy, laser hair removal more and more seduces those who want to put an end to their hair for good. From the first session, the results are visible. The hairs grow back rarer, finer and all soft. After about 5 to 15 sessions spaced three to six weeks apart, there is usually only a light down. The only problems are that the sessions are expensive (from € 300 for half-legs) and the laser does not yet epilate very light or red hairs.
