The film “Okja” is about the friendship of a swinepot and a girl. And what about vegetarianism?

Okja tells the story of the relationship between a little Korean girl Michu and a giant experimental pig. Mirando Corporation has created unusual piglets and distributed them to 26 farmers around the world to raise the best individual, which in 10 will enter the competition for the title of the best swine. Pig Okja was the best friend of a little girl, they lived in the mountains and took care of each other. But one day, representatives of the corporation came and took the pig to New York. Michu could not accept this and went to save her best friend.

At first glance, it seems that this film will not be different from many, where, say, the hero is friends with a dog that disappears and they are looking for it, overcoming various obstacles. Yes, this is also there, but everything is much deeper. Okja shows how the modern world treats animals. Like giant corporations in search of profit, they are ready for any lies, tricks and atrocities. This is a film about animal rights activists who sometimes act like terrorists. They set high goals for themselves, but in order to achieve them, they are ready to sacrifice the life of one particular animal.

This is a story about a scientist who loved animals, but forgot about it because his TV show became uninteresting to anyone.

But the main thing is a film about friendship, friendship between man and animal. Here we see Okja the Giant Swinebat living, playing, loving and wanting to enjoy life. But this computer character is just a metaphor. Okja personify all our smaller brothers who surround us.

Bong Joon-ho put together an excellent cast: Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal, Paul Dano, Lilly Collins, Steven Yan, Giancarlo Esposito. Such a number of stars would be the envy of any project that came out in the cinema. Also worth noting are the computer graphics specialists who made Okja as alive as possible. Watching the movie, you worry about this giant pig and want her to come home.

If you or your friends are thinking about giving up meat, then you should definitely watch this movie. It will confirm that you are on the right track! Love animals, don’t eat them!
