The choice of a thermos. Video Tips
A thermos is a rather useful human invention, which is difficult to do without on winter fishing, on a long trip, at work in the absence of a dining room. A quality thermos will keep tea, broth or coffee hot for a long time. It is important not to be mistaken with the choice, therefore, you should pay attention to some parameters when choosing a thermos.
The ability of a thermos to maintain the temperature of tea or coffee depends on the material from which the flask is made. Glass is considered a fragile material, so a bulb made of it can very quickly deteriorate after being accidentally dropped or hit. But at the same time, glass has an undoubted advantage – it is high hygiene, such a flask is easy to clean, there is no urgent need to use special detergents. Soft sponges and neutral agents are suitable for washing a steel thermos, hard sponges can damage the surface layer and create foci of corrosion.
To choose a thermos, you need to understand what it will be used for storing. If you need a thermos for storing coffee or tea, choose a model with a narrow neck. Wide neck is more suitable for broths and soups
Valuable tips when choosing a thermos
In the process of acquiring a good thermos, start identifying its qualities. Open it and carefully inspect for defects (chips, cracks or scratches). Pay attention to the plug and lid, they must be sealed. Unscrew the lid, smell the inside. A high-quality thermos should not have strong specific odors. Refuse to buy the product if there is a chemical smell, most likely, it is made from poor quality materials.
Check the O-ring between the plastic body and the neck of the thermos. It must be precisely sized to prevent leakage and rapid temperature changes. Special cork designs allow pouring tea or coffee without opening the thermos completely, thereby reducing temperature losses. Check the reliability of such a plug.
Ask the seller about the warranty for the thermos, find out if there is a mark from the manufacturer about the warranty. Its presence indicates the high quality of the product, it can guarantee you an exchange if defects are found during use. Close attention should be paid to the address, country and name of the manufacturer; the absence of such marks indicates the low quality of the thermos.
The most expensive thermos does not mean the best. Choose a model that is affordable, in a quality-price ratio
Having chosen the right thermos, check the quality of the vacuum immediately after coming home (as it is impossible to do this in the store). Pour boiling water into a thermos and pour it out after five minutes, so you warm the flask. Then pour hot water again, leaving one centimeter for air. If after half an hour the walls of the thermos become warmer, then it is defective. Return it to the store immediately, this model will not keep warm for long.
