For the vast majority of chefs, the fact that their restaurants will be included in the Michelin list is a long-awaited dream, many go to this for many years. But not for South Korean chef and restaurant owner Eo Yun-Gwon. He thinks his restaurant has nothing to do on this list. Moreover, Eo Yun-Gwon was offended and considered his restaurant humiliated when Michelin included it in its list of the best restaurants of 2019.
“The Michelin List is a brutal system. She makes the cooks work for about a year while waiting for the test and they don’t know when it will take place, ”said Eo Yun-Gwon. “It’s humiliating to see my restaurant get a rating on this list,” continued the chef. Basically, he is offended by the way Michelin rates restaurants, according to incomprehensible criteria. Eo claims to have written and asked to be told about it, but received no response.
Then he asked not to include his restaurant on the list of Michelin stars. And when his request was not granted, Eo Yun-Gwon filed a lawsuit against Michelin for not fulfilling the request.
“There are thousands of restaurants in Seoul that are on par or better than those on the Michelin List,” chef Eo Yun-Gwon complained. “Numerous restaurateurs and workers waste their soul (money, time and effort) to pursue the mirage that is a Michelin star.”
Eo believes that Michelin’s management violated the law by including his restaurant in the 2019 edition, and thus publicly insulted the restaurant. However, legal experts argue that he is unlikely to win the case in court. After all, Michelin did not use profanity in describing Eo’s restaurant or in any other way did not speak negatively about it.

But even if Eo’s lawsuit turns out to be unsuccessful, there are those who say that he has already achieved his goal, shedding light on the incomprehensible rating system of the Michelin List – something that chefs have long complained about.
