Strawberry mite: how to deal
The strawberry mite is a dangerous harmful insect that can destroy entire berry plantations. The fight against it consists in the use of chemicals and subsequent preventive measures.
How to get rid of a strawberry mite?
If the pest has settled on strawberry plantings, then you should not postpone the use of chemicals. The mite spreads very quickly and can destroy most of the crop in a short time.
Strawberry mite can spread quickly and destroy large amounts of crops
When choosing a specialized means of combating mites, it is necessary to pay attention to the requirements for the temperature regime during processing. The use of some products at high temperatures is contraindicated, as the risk of negative consequences for strawberries, such as burns, increases. Or, if these conditions are not met, the drug may lose its effectiveness against the pest.
The most popular chemicals in the fight against strawberry mites include Colloidal Sulfur, Neoron, Kemifos, Aktellik, Fufanon, and Moroleks.
Basic processing principles:
- Preparation of a working mixture, strictly following the instructions for use.
- Spraying immediately after preparation of the solution.
- Processing on dry, windless days.
- Do not spray in the daytime, when the risk of burns in the bright sun and the destruction of beneficial insects, which are activated at lunchtime, increases.
- Do not process at temperatures below 18 degrees.
- It should be sprayed thoroughly, from all sides, so that no untreated dry areas remain on the plant.
Processing is carried out at least twice a season. If necessary, the number of sprays can be increased according to the instructions for use.
Preventive control of strawberry mites
Measures to prevent the appearance of a tick include a set of actions to ensure unfavorable conditions for the pest. These include:
- Maintaining cleanliness in the area with plants, timely disposal of weeds, dry leaves and grass.
- Maintaining good illumination of the area with planting. Plants should not be shaded by tall trees, shrubs or structures.
- Creation of conditions under which the site will be well ventilated.
- Elimination of moisture stagnation on the soil surface.
- Timely soil loosening.
- Fertilizing and increasing soil fertility.
- Feeding plants with specialized products to improve their growth and resistance to negative factors.
- Autumn processing of strawberries with “Karbofos”.
Carrying out all these activities in a complex will create powerful protection for the crop and increase its yield.
Large plantings of strawberry crops require special care from the gardener, since it is important to notice the invasion of the pest at the earliest stages. Then the fight against it will not bring big problems and will end with the complete destruction of the tick and the preservation of the crop.
