Strawberry Maxim: variety description

Strawberry “Maxim”, or, as it is also called, “Gigantella Maxim”, bears fruit in early July. Its smooth, bright red berries are very large, they weigh up to 100 grams or more. The strong stems cannot support the weight of the ripe strawberries and bend towards the ground. In addition to large berries, this variety has many other advantages.

Description of the strawberry variety “Maxim”

Strawberry “Maxim” is a Dutch variety. The bushes of the plant grow powerful, up to half a meter high and 60 cm in diameter. Strawberries form many whiskers, which are also thick and powerful. The harvest in central Russia ripens in early July.

Strawberries “Maxim” are very large, they lean to the ground, so they lay straw under the bushes

The average weight of ripe berries in the photo of “Maxim” strawberry is 60 grams, the maximum weight is about 100 grams. Up to two and a half kilograms of strawberries are harvested from one bush

The flesh of the berries is dense and juicy, with a pleasant harmonious taste. The berries do not wrinkle, they are easy to transport, so it is profitable to grow them for sale. Strawberries are good when frozen, they do not lose their taste and shape after defrosting.

Light loamy or sandy loam soil with neutral acidity is suitable for planting strawberries. When preparing the site, organic fertilizers are applied and, if necessary, the soil is lime. Since adult plants have a powerful root system, 1 sq. m plant no more than 4 plants. A sparse planting helps the sun to better illuminate the berry bushes.

To get a high-quality and high yield, the strawberry mustache must be removed. Ripe berries are picked immediately, preventing them from overripening on the bushes

To create optimal growing conditions, rotted compost is annually introduced under strawberry bushes – 1 bucket per 1 sq. m of beds. To obtain a rich harvest, plants are abundantly watered and mulch the soil around the bushes. Sawdust, straw or cut grass are used as mulch, sometimes strawberries are planted on agrofibre.

The advantage of the variety is that it can grow in one place for up to 7 years without losing its yield and size of berries.

The disease resistance of the variety is average, therefore it is necessary to carry out preventive treatment of plants with fungicides and insecticides. In autumn, strawberry bushes need to be prepared for winter, remove dry leaves and old flower stalks, and insulate them before the onset of a strong cold snap.

Strawberry “Maxim” has a high yield and large size of berries. This variety is profitable to grow for sale or freeze for the winter.
