Research on the “elixir of life”
According to information from foreign media, the Altos Labs start-up is already engaging the first scientists who will develop cell reprogramming technology. One of them is Dr. Shinya Yamanaka, who pioneered cell reprogramming research, winning the 2012 Nobel Prize for this research. He found that by adding only four specific proteins to cells, they can be ordered to return to an earlier state, with the properties of embryonic stem cellswhich form the building blocks of organisms’ new life. Dr. Yamanaka will serve as a free advisor to the Altos science council, according to the science journal Technology Review, which reported on the Altos founding.
Another expert is to be Dr. Juan Carlos Izpisua Belmonte, a Spanish biologist working at the Salk Institute in California, who used the Yamanaki technique in various studies. Including in 2016, he conducted an experiment in mice that showed signs of a “reversal” age. After the Izpisua Belmonte experiment the reprogramming technique was identified as a potential “elixir of life”as reported by «Technology Review». The Altos Labs scientific council is to include even more world experts in biotechnology. Their main goal, as Dr. Manuel Serano of the Institute for Biomedical Research emphasized, is “to understand rejuvenation”. The research that scientists intend to conduct is not safe, but it offers a chance to revolutionize science in terms of stopping the aging process. There is still a long way to go before researchers. For starters, they are going to concentrate on reprogramming the cells in such a way that the animals do not suffer from it and that it does not kill them.
