To cook stewed cabbage with meat, you will need: – 500 grams of white cabbage; – 500 grams of meat; – 2 heads of onions; – salt; – 3-4 pieces of bay leaves; – ground black pepper; – 4 tablespoons of tomato paste; – vegetable oil.

Pork neck is ideal for preparing this dish, it is juicy and aromatic. If you want to cook cabbage with beef or chicken, add a little pork, as the beef will be dryish and the chicken will not be very flavorful. Rinse the meat under running cold water, remove the film and cut into small cubes.

Wash fresh cabbage, remove the top leaves and chop, but not very finely. You can chop the cabbage using a special hatchet, so the cabbage will give off juice, making the dish tastier and richer. Place the cabbage in a bowl and cover with boiling water, let stand for 5-7 minutes, then drain. This will make the cabbage softer, making it stew faster. Peel the onions and cut into thin half rings.

Take out a deep skillet or saucepan, add a little vegetable oil and put onions. Fry it until transparent for 3-4 minutes, stirring constantly. Then add the pieces of meat to the onion and continue to fry without scorching for about 10 minutes.

If ingredients start to burn, add more oil and reduce heat

Now add fresh cabbage to the meat, salt and pepper to taste, mix, cover and simmer until cooked for 1 hour. After this time, add the tomato paste, bay leaf, stir again and leave to simmer under a lid over low heat for about 20 minutes. Alternatively, replace the tomato paste with a few finely chopped fresh tomatoes. If you don’t want to add this ingredient at all, remember that the dish can turn out sweetish, so to make it sour, add a little lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, or cranberry juice.
