Smoke and fat: smokers have been shown to eat higher-calorie foods

Researchers at Yale and Fairfield Universities in the United States evaluated data from about 5300 people and found that the diet of smokers is significantly different from the diet of people without bad habits. Smokers eat more calories, although they consume less food – they eat less often and in small portions. Overall, smokers consume 200 more calories per day than non-smokers. Their diet contains fewer fruits and vegetables, which leads to a deficiency of vitamin C, and this is fraught with the appearance of cardiovascular and oncological diseases.

It is known that people who quit smoking can quickly gain weight – and now it is clear why: the diet high in calories is to blame for everything. Diet changes can help prevent weight gain after quitting smoking.
