Severity in the abdomen during pregnancy, heaviness in the lower abdomen
Abdominal heaviness during pregnancy is a common consequence of a baby growing in the womb. But the severity can be of varying intensity, you need to be able to distinguish the physiological norm from pathology in order to seek medical help in time.
The severity of the lower abdomen during pregnancy: how to distinguish pathology from the norm
A feeling of heaviness in the abdomen is normal, the fetus grows, and the uterus enlarges, which oppresses other organs. Especially the digestive tract, which responds to this with heartburn, discomfort or slow digestion.
Subsequently, there may be heaviness in the stomach and intestines. Such a condition should not cause concern; in difficult cases, the doctor may recommend a special diet, nutrition with a clear regimen and restless walks.
Abdominal heaviness during pregnancy without pain is common.
But the feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen, which is accompanied by discharge or severe pain, is a reason to immediately consult a doctor.
Discomfort in the lower abdomen, aggravated by concomitant symptoms, can indicate the following serious pathologies:
- Ectopic pregnancy. It is accompanied by severe pain and heaviness, discomfort and discharge. This pathological condition is very dangerous and requires immediate intervention.
- Spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. Severity in the pelvis is accompanied by severe pulling pain in the lower back, bloody discharge, cramping contractions of the uterus. An ambulance should be called immediately, because such a condition is a serious threat to the life and health of the mother. In some cases, with timely treatment, it is possible to save the baby and preserve the pregnancy.
- Placental abruption. A very dangerous pathology, without qualified medical assistance, leads to the loss of a child and severe bleeding. It may also be accompanied by a feeling of heaviness, severe sharp pain and bloody discharge.
- Hypertonicity of the uterus. It starts with a feeling of heaviness and petrification in the lower abdomen. If this condition occurs after physical exertion or stress, you need to lie down and try to relax. If the feeling of petrification and heaviness appears very often, you should tell your doctor about this.
Listen to your body. A growing child requires space, it becomes heavier, therefore, it is more difficult to carry it. Natural severity in this case is not a pathology, but the norm, if there are no accompanying symptoms.
