There are not many passive types of fishing, they are not very popular among anglers, however, many still make do-it-yourself pike hooks. This type of fishing is attracted by the fact that after the gear is set, you can safely do other things, including more active fishing.
What are supplies?
For catching pike and other types of predator, both on the river and on the lakes, a lot of different gear is used. They are divided by activity and passivity in terms of application. Passive species include zherlitsy and zakidushki, but zherlitsy, in turn, are divided into several subspecies. One of these subspecies are supplies, mainly collected by anglers themselves.
Not everyone uses this type of fishing, for many it is very passive, however, experienced anglers often set up hooks, and then, if desired, engage in more active types of catching fish. This subspecies is attractive in that it is enough to check the exposed tackle only a couple of times a day, pick up the catch and throw the tackle again.
There are two types of supplies, which will differ slightly from each other:
kind of settings | Main characteristics |
winter | used when fishing from ice, usually placed below the water level so as not to freeze, the basis is a rubber hose |
year | exhibit both from the boat and along the coastline, using old plastic bottles as a basis |
They collect tackle in the same way, the components will vary depending on the reservoir and seasonal characteristics.
We collect the supply ourselves
In the distribution network, it will not be possible to purchase ready-made tackle of such a subspecies, usually a do-it-yourself pike is going to be delivered. To do this, pre-buy the necessary components, and mount the tackle.
It is worth considering in advance when and where fishing will take place. Find out in more detail what size specimens live in the selected reservoir.
Winter option
Sets for pike in winter have their own characteristics, they use a slightly different basis for installation than for fishing at other times of the year. To collect gear you will need:
- As a reel, which will hold all the components, a piece of rubber hose is usually used. For a delivery, 12-15 cm is enough, on the one hand, with the help of an awl, two holes are made in it, the second end must simply be cut.
- For the base you need a fishing line, it is better to take a monk, while the thickness should be up to 0,4 mm. It will need about 8-12 m, depending on the depths in the reservoir chosen for fishing.
- A mandatory element is a sliding type sinker, it can be different from 4 g to 10 g.
- Stop beads are a must, they can be used to quickly and easily adjust the depth.
- The leash is an important part of the tackle, it is on it that the mobility of the live bait and the success of fishing depend on 50%. Fluorocarbon options are usually used, or steel is used for reliability.
- Hooks are chosen carefully, it is best to use doubles or tees, it depends on the method of setting the live bait. The main thing is that they are sharp and durable.
You will also need a strong stick that will hold the set over the hole after the tackle is installed in the hole.
Gather gear like this:
- In the holes that are located one on top of the other, they thread the fishing line so that a loop is obtained and the end is fixed.
- The rest of the base is wound onto the hose itself, leaving a small piece for further installation of gear.
- Next, they put a locking bead, which will not allow the load to climb the fishing line above the required one.
- Next, a sinker is installed, which is selected depending on the depths being fished. Then there is another stopper.
- The next element of the tackle will be a leash, it is knitted through a swivel to the main fishing line.
- A hook is attached through the winding ring or directly to the material of the leash.
The rest is done directly on the fishing trip, it’s definitely not worth planting live bait from home.
Summer supply
In summer, pike fishing can also be passive; for this, slightly modified vents are used. It is better to set up supplies at this time of the year not from the coastline, but from a boat, so it will be possible to catch a large area of water.
The main differences between the summer subspecies and the winter subspecies are:
- the use of a thicker fishing line, it is better to take options from 0,45 mm and above;
- plastic bottles are often used as a reel, they will hold up well on the water;
- there is an installation of tackle, in which a sinker of about 100 g is used, and sometimes more, then the tackle will definitely not be carried away by the current, but in addition, a lighter option is selected for the live bait.
Otherwise, the supply in the summer from the winter version will not differ in anything.
Where and how to catch
Catching pike on baits takes place all year round, the predator will perfectly respond to the proposed live bait in the spring on the last ice, she will not refuse such a bait in the winter, when all the little things have long rolled into the wintering pits. In summer and autumn, this tackle is put up on water bodies at least, sometimes they are simply replaced with more familiar vents.
The most promising places for supplying pike are:
- eyebrows;
- pits and depressions along the channel;
- places near thickets of reeds and reeds;
- exit from wintering pits.
They also install tackle near the snag, the pike often stands there waiting for the victim.
Check the installed vents no more than every 3 hours.
How to fish from ice
In winter, for catching on hooks, it is necessary to drill holes at a distance of at least 10-15 m from each other. Their number depends on how much gear is collected. They begin to arrange with the first drilled one, and then they go to catch on a lure or do other things.
The tackle on the ice can be left overnight, for this the stick is fixed on the ice more securely, the hole is covered with hay or dry cattail, and covered with snow on top.
Open water fishing method
In open water, it is better to set up pike hooks from a boat in the evening, the distance between them should be 8-10 m. They usually do not touch them until the morning, and at dawn, using the same boat, they check the catch.
During the day, tackle is practically not caught; it can be used as one of the methods in the autumn period, before the first ice.
Useful tips and tricks
For fishing with hooks, it’s not enough to simply make and set tackle in a promising place. Fishing in this way will bring a good result if you know and apply some subtleties and tricks:
- fishing is carried out near the coastal zone near reeds and reeds at a depth of not more than 0,5 m;
- in deep areas of reservoirs for catching trophies, the bait is set to a depth of up to 3 m;
- it is not recommended to use a cord for the base of the tackle; when playing the catch, the risk of injury to the angler increases;
- live bait is used as bait, it is recommended to prepare it in advance;
- bait is carp, roach, ruff, small perches;
- it is advisable to use live bait from the same reservoir where fishing takes place;
- you can put the bait in different ways, but the tee through the gill cover proved to be the most effective;
- you should not save on fittings if you make the rigging leads yourself, so the descents and breakage of the gear can be avoided almost completely.
The rest of the subtleties, each angler comprehends already directly on fishing.
