With such prices, the whole family will soon be sitting on potatoes and pasta.
Initially, the idea of imposing a tax on sausage and processed red meat products in general belongs to – you won’t believe it! – a British scientist. The World Health Organization, in principle, ranks red meat as a possibly carcinogenic product. Perhaps – this is not accurate. But processed beef, lamb and pork in the form of sausages, ham, bacon and sausages are considered unequivocally carcinogenic, provoking the development of colon, pancreas and prostate cancer. And also heart disease, strokes, diabetes … Scientists at Oxford have calculated that at the current level of consumption of red meat products by 2020 in the world will die almost 2,5 million people – just because of food. And so the researchers proposed to introduce a tax on junk food, thereby equating sausage with alcohol or cigarettes.
Russian experts were one of the first to listen to the conclusions of the British specialists. As reported “
Sausage producers, of course, are against additional taxes. And they even beg to think about citizens who do not want to switch to healthy salads at all. After all, you need to leave people a choice! The forced infliction of happiness has not yet benefited anyone. Suddenly switch from pork to nuts … Well, maybe someone can do that. But one must, probably, really want to change the diet so radically.
By the way, the Ministry of Health supports the prospect of introducing a new tax. Like, the fewer harmful products in stores, the healthier the nation. The only strange thing is that they started with sausage, and not chips, instant noodles and other croutons with the taste of instant noodles. And, perhaps, it is possible to instill a taste for healthy eating by other methods, without driving people into the rigid framework of excise taxes?
Interview
Will you give up the sausage if it rises in price?
I don’t eat it anyway, I try to eat right.
As I bought it once a year for Olivier’s sake, I will continue to buy it.
If I refuse any product, it will be of my own free will, and not under the duress.
Now I am buying to save time, but I may have to come up with something else.
Probably yes. The salary is not rubber, and every trip to the supermarket makes a hole in the budget.
With such prices, the whole family will soon be sitting on potatoes and pasta.
