Your doctor advises you what to do when you develop a rash during pregnancy

A rash in pregnancy can be due to a number of reasons. Skin changes may be related to the course of pregnancy, and also have nothing to do with it. Pregnancy is a special period in a woman’s life during which her body changes naturally. This condition is associated with an altered hormonal balance, and often with rapid weight gain and skin stretching. In a pregnant woman, local and generalized discoloration may occur skin stretch marks and it does not indicate the presence of pathology. Some pregnant women may experience itching in pregnancy, which most often occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy and is not necessarily related to any disease. Some pre-existing dermatological diseases may be aggravated during pregnancy. There are many specific skin conditions that affect pregnant women.

They include, among others gestational cholestasis, multiform rash in pregnant women, papular dermatitis in pregnant women, gestational scabiasis, gestational herpes, herpetic impetigo. In the case of skin lesions in a pregnant woman, infectious diseases that may have a negative effect on the development of the fetus should be ruled out. Symptoms of itching, rash may indicate the presence of a systemic disease. Therefore, gestational diabetes, kidney disease and cholestasis should be excluded. A separate cause may be mental disorders that pregnant women may also experience.

The same diseases may develop in pregnant women as in non-pregnant women. Therefore, extensive diagnostics is often needed to find the cause of skin changes. Please go to the gynecology and obstetrics specialist who is managing your pregnancy. The doctor will take a complete history, examine the changes and decide on further treatment. If necessary, he will perform diagnostics and refer them to a specialist, e.g. a dermatologist. Depending on the established cause of skin changes, the doctor will prescribe the appropriate treatment.
