Purple peonies: purple varieties

Purple peonies are a spectacular decoration of any garden or summer cottage. Such a color in the color of the petals or similar shades are found in different representatives of this plant, both tree and herbaceous varieties.

The purple color in the coloration of a peony is a rarity. Dark purples, purplish reds, or black and reds are more common. The choice of color does not affect the characteristics of the plant – almost all peonies have the same set of preferences for the conditions of their keeping.

Purple peonies are found among many plant varieties.

In order for the plants to develop correctly, bloom well and give the owner luxurious flowers, you need to know some recommendations and adhere to them:

  • The place for planting peonies should be open to light. It is highly undesirable if there are buildings or other plantings of tall plants nearby. These flowers do not like being in the shade.
  • Loose and fertile soil works well. Pure sandy or clayey soils slow down growth, which is detrimental to flowering. Such land must be prepared in advance. The plant loves organic feeding.
  • The best time to plant is late August or early September. Such seedlings take root better and adapt more easily to a new place. And in the spring, their active growth and development have already begun.

The most optimal breeding method is dividing the bush. It is carefully huddled in a circle and taken out of the ground. You need to divide the bush as carefully as possible so as not to damage the roots.

When transplanting a plant, it must be divided, since a fully transplanted adult bush is unlikely to take root.

The variety of peonies has more than 5 thousand varieties, differing in color and shape of flowers. Among them, one can distinguish the following types with a purple tint:

  • “Imperial crown”. Very large spherical or cupped flowers – up to 25 cm in diameter. The flowering period is 2 weeks or longer if the weather is cool.
  • The Black Crown. It has shiny, dark purple petals. The diameter of the flowers reaches 17 cm. A frost-resistant variety, well suited for temperate climates. In colder regions, shelter is required for the winter.
  • “Purple Ocean”. The crown shape of the flowers lends sophistication, in addition, it has an incredibly pleasant aroma. Diameter – up to 16 cm. Frost-resistant grade. Duration of flowering is 2-3 weeks.

Peonies look great both alone and in group plantings. Finding a suitable variety is not a problem – you can buy it in a specialized store or on the website. With proper care, they will delight you with their splendor for many years.
