Pregnant, we take care of our feet

Pregnancy: our feet change

The more our pregnancy progresses, the more our feet are put to the test. They will have to support a much larger body mass than usual, which is no small task. This is why the tendonitis are also more common with us pregnant women.

During pregnancy, it is also not uncommon to retain water, or even edema. In this case, our feet may swell and we can take up to one size more !

Another change: depending on your weight gain, our feet move apart more and more to help us keep balance. The arch of our back is accentuated, at the same time favoring the famous “duck” gait.

Putting on pregnant shoes: the right reflexes

At the start of pregnancy, we do a small check-up at a chiropodist. It is recommended if you have problems with corns or ingrown toenails. At the end of pregnancy, it will be more and more difficult to cut your nails on your own. To keep your feet impeccable, do not hesitate to make an appointment with the manicurist for a beauty of the feet 🙂

If we have to walk long distances, we prefer running sneakers with classic sneakers. They have a heel at the back which allows you to take the step correctly, thus relieving the back.

We are thinking of getting a moisturizing foot cream. A small daily massage will do us the greatest good. Here, what if we asked Chéri-darling to give us a little foot massage? It is excellent for boosting blood circulation!

Small tip if our skin becomes very sensitive to the slightest external aggression: we wear our socks inside out in order to avoid painful rubbing of the seams on the already weakened skin.

From the 6th and 7th months, if we had pre-pregnancy foot problems (flat feet, hollow feet…), our greater weight gain can accentuate them. In this case, it is better to wait for the birth of our baby to see with his podiatrist if the wearing of orthopedic insoles is necessary.

Putting on pregnant shoes: what to avoid

Stop using heels that are too high and too thin. You can lose your balance and fall. However, we do not refer to ballerinas, because they accentuate lower back pain and promote tendonitis.

The ideal is to wear heels 3 or 4 cm wide. To prevent our toes from suffering from compression, we favor shoes with round toes. For more comfort, we also prefer leather shoes. Except patent leather, which is much less flexible.

I offer myself a beauty of the feet

We are a little wary of certain beauty institutes who do not always have impeccable hygiene. We check that the beautician uses sterilized and single-use products. Generally, nail polish formulas are not highly recommended during pregnancy, but more and more brands offer varnishes without toxic solvents. Chic!
