Under the joint organization of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Goychay regional executive power, in the city of Goychay, the traditional center of pomegranate growing in Azerbaijan, every year on the days of harvesting this fruit is held Pomegranate festival (Azerb. Nar bayramı). It dates back to 2006 and runs from October 26 to November 7.
Representatives of state bodies, members of the Milli Mejlis, representatives of the diplomatic corps, guests from neighboring districts, who are warmly greeted by residents and representatives of the district public, come to the district to participate in the festive events.
It is worth noting that the city itself is preparing for the holiday. Improvement work is underway, parks, gardens and streets are festively decorated.
Festive events begin with the laying of wreaths at the monument to the national leader in the park named after Heydar Aliyev and speeches there by the heads of local authorities and visiting guests who congratulate the population of the region on the Pomegranate Holiday and talk about the economic, social, cultural and moral significance of such events. Then the guests visit the Museum. G. Aliyev, health-improving complex and other local attractions.
The main festive platform is the pomegranate fair, which takes place in the city center, and where all the participants of the event can visit, taste the wonderful pomegranate juice produced at Goychay-cognac LLC, at the Goychay food processing plant, and learn a lot of useful information about the role of pomegranate in treatment of various diseases.
In the park named after H. Aliyev, performances of sportsmen, folklore groups, song and dance ensemble, as well as various competitions with the awarding of prizes are held. In the evening, on the main square of the region, the Pomegranate Festival ends with a magnificent concert, with the participation of masters of arts of the republic, and a fireworks display.
