People at risk
Anyone can catch the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis because it is widespread all over the world.
- The pregnant women can transmit the disease to the fetus, which can lead to serious health problems.
People with weakened immune systems are at greater risk for serious health problems:
- People with SIDA / VIH.
- People who follow a chemotherapy.
- People who take steroids or drugs immunosuppressants.
- People who have received transplantation.
Risk factors
- Be in contact with cat feces by handling soil or litter.
- Live or travel in countries whose sanitary conditions are deficient (water or contaminated meat).
- Very rarely, toxoplasmosis can be transmitted by organ transplant or a blood transfusion.
