People at risk

The people most at risk to contract the measles are the people unvaccinated. Among them, some are particularly likely to suffer from a serious form or complications:

  • The infants under one year old and adults over 20 years old
  • People with immune deficiency
  • People suffering from malnutrition
  • The pregnant women

In pregnant women, measles can have serious consequences on the fetus, increasing the risk of miscarriage and premature delivery. It also exposes the mother to serious respiratory complications, which may require hospitalization.

Risk factors

Here are factors that can increase your risk of getting measles:

  • not to be vaccinated
  • travel to countries with high measles prevalence
  • have vitamin A deficiency
