Peony Coral: description, photo

Peony “Coral” stands out against the background of its congeners with a shade of inflorescences. So that the flowers do not lose their tone, it is necessary to choose the right place for planting.

Coral peonies look unusual and bright. The opened buds reach 15-25 cm in diameter. The shape of the flower resembles a star, the inflorescences are composed of many layers of petals.

Peony “Coral” can grow in one place for 8-10 years

The leaves of peonies are trifoliate or pinnately divided. Coloring from dark green to deep purple, gray color is a rarity. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow or red.

The advantages of this variety of peonies include a powerful root system, due to which the flower develops normally under adverse weather conditions.

The disadvantage of coral varieties is the burnout of inflorescences in bright sunlight. At the end of flowering, the shade fades, becomes creamy.

Coral varieties are gradually replacing conventional varieties. They are adapted to the climatic conditions of Russia. They are resistant to frost and drought, so they can be grown both in the south and in the middle lane.

When choosing peonies, give preference to these coral varieties:

  • Pink. The plant grows up to 60 cm in height. Terry inflorescences, light coral in color with a pink tint.
  • Fairy. The bushes are round, with an average height of about 75 cm. The inflorescences are semi-double, up to 16 cm in diameter, of a pink-coral shade.
  • “Charm”. Inflorescences up to 20 cm in diameter, consist of 8 rows of petals. At the beginning of flowering, they are dark pink, then they acquire a light coral tone, along the contour of the petals there is a white border. Flowers turn yellow before wilting.

The inflorescences are terry, cupped, about 20 cm in diameter. The buds are peach-pink in color with a coral tint. By the end of flowering, the petals turn yellow.

There are other popular varieties of peonies such as Beach, Hawaiian, Magic, Louis, Topeka and others.

Varieties of “Coral” are not picky about their care. If you decide to grow these peonies in your flower bed, choose a place with slightly alkaline soil, pH more than 7,5. The bushes bloom in the 2nd year, they become the most beautiful in 4-5 years.

In the flowerbed, you can create groups of different coral varieties or combine them with planting red, white and pink peonies. The bushes of “Coral” look beautiful solo.
